Which would you have?

I know this is going to sound dumb, but how would a 500mhz celeron compare to a PII 233mhz? I know the cele is double the power, but i know that they do not perform as well as a pentium II or III core?

Just wondering?

Now I could ( & most likely is ) wrong, but I believe the Celeron 500 was the same as a PII 500. I had an old Celeron 500 machine at one time & in the bootup screen it said it was a Celeron, but in the BIOS & just about every other proggy that gives you that kinda info, stated that it was a PII500. Go Figure.

Anywho............I figure the Celeron 500 might be somewhat faster then the PII 233.

 

they are the same chip, the ones that perform better get branded as pentiums, the poorer performers are branded as celerons.

 

Thanks for the input! I just took the hsf off the cele, and wow what a hudge core! how much AS3 do i have to put on this thing. do i have to cover everything?

The PII 233 is as slow as the PII came. The Celey 500 is a PII core with a 128KB L2 cache instead of 256 (the Celey 533 is a PIII core, which would make the choice obvious).

I suspect it would depend on what the FSB speed is. The Celey would probably be better, though. At worst, a Celey was 2/3 of an equal-clocked equal-core Pentium. That is, it should perform roughly as a PII 333.
