HI, While we are conneced to internet thro modem and thro ISP.. But in the absnce of PC is not used , we get wifi connection thro the same ISP? Or different Source? Normally you are given external ip to communicate while connected to the modem thro ethernet pppoe, but in wifi also, you are getting the Same ISPs modem configurations to help us get wifi connected to smartphones and other devices. Whose server provides Wifi? Is it the same ISP or other sources? I come across some channel signal while i am using wifi thro internet. Could some expert throws light on this ? Then who provides those channels ?

WiFi signals come from wireless routers and access points - nothing to do with ISPs. If you don't have a wireless router of your own then you are most likely seeing and using the wifi signal of a neighbour who either doesn't know he's supposed to protect his wifi with a password or simply doesn't know how to do it.

Some modems are actually modems and routers combined, called gateways.
What brand and hardware is your modem so we can tell if it is just a modem or a gateway. If it is a gateway, you probably get wireless through that.

I find that i am allotted an external ip, even when i am not using the pc, but other devices such as smartphones etc. So, how it is said that the internet connection on those occasions are not given by Service Provider, Is my assumption correct? So, I supppose, that there is something connection with ISP. My concern is what are those access pints, who provide those access points. Are they provided outside the ISPs purview?
Normallywe do not bother about those things as smartphones aregetting connected.
Could i expect a more clearer and layman unsertanding view

Hi Earthling, How could you say I am using another wifi signal. I am having wifi modem and i configured to get both internet access thro pppoe, and wifi as well in wifi settings page. When you do not your pc, then also you get internet access thro wifi with the same modem due to the wifi connection settings. Do you think, that neighbours would allow, without a password. Every sservice provider or users have passwords. Please kindly see the query and then reply

In the United States, it is against the law to hop on another's paid internet access and use his/her wifi signal. Plus there are also limits on data on some carriers; if you go over, you pay more. So people guard the wifi signal.

It is irrelevant whether the PC is running or not - the WiFi signal will always be there until the modem/wireless router is switched off or the ISP has a problem with his network. I raised the possibility that maybe you were connecting to someone else's wifi signal because it wasn't clear to me that you did have your own wireless router. Here in the UK we do not usually call wireless routers modems.

Plodr I already informed that I am using my wifi signal from my wireless router.

I know that router would be running if we switch off pc. My query is who gives external ip and who manage it.

Your modem is connected to your ISP and only he can set or change its WAN IP address
