white screen

I just reformated my puter and downloaded all the updates and reinstalled most of my programs and now i am havind a white screen come up on top of everthing and the only way to get out of it is by going to the bill gates 3 finger salute ie. ctrl/alt/del then I can at least go back to the program or show the desk top only if I have the task screen still up any suggestions? i am operating with vista 32

After you have done ctrl/alt/del, is there a program shown running in the task bar?

 

i ran an upate for windows i have avg but i do not have a malware other than winows defender any suggestions

no programs are running but at least i can get to the task bar for everything... this happens at anytime with or without a program running

at the bottom of the scree it says done on left side and you must go to ctrl/alt/del to get to the desk top it is a royal pain in the neck...
