Alright...where to start, I have nvidia(r) nForce(tm) audio, problem is i CANNOT get my mic working, rules out 3rd party since it's not working at ALL in sound recorder, did the cool windows hardware test and it's working, went thru every damn sounds option and unmuted/turned volume all the way up thats possibly fesable, however, being a computer tech i am willing to start at step freakin 1. So dont shy away from asking me if it's plugged in (it is) but you see what i'm saying, if you've had the same problem please walk me thru or at least try!

Since you say it is plugged in it must be external. Can you try the mic out on another computer? Remove the mic from device manager and let Windows redetect it and reload the driver. Reinstall an updated sound driver.

Are you certain you have it plugged into the correct port? On some motherboards, changing from 5.1 surround to 2.1 can change the function of some of the ports. Can you open up your sound manager program and see for sure which is which?

Also, when you go into your volume control (double click the little speaker) does it allow you to control the microphone? If not, go to Options->Properties and check the box that says Microphone. Then check if it is muted, or turned all the way down.
