Who done it?

Who done it? Someone broke the Geekionary, all I get is “memory error at line 414” or lock up n get a white error loading screen.

I saw a big ant going into the library w/a wrench mumbling something like…darn cats, shed everywhere, then a sneeze, then a loud bang.

There was also this other guy coming out of the library saying something, but could not understand him…he was talking w/his tongue sticking out.

Not sure who did it, but I think:
    Who:Ant
    Where: Library
How: Pipe wrench, sneezed an hit the geekionary w/the wrench by accident

But to be fair, ant could have been coming from fixing the sink too; I did cough up a big fur ball the other day.

I have an alibi, 1024 memory n this is the only time I have ever seen this error, everything else works fine, plus I was busy shedding in game forum when it happened.

    Clues attached

*looks innocent* hmm can u open the geekionary Halo? if so, imma gonna go with the Conspiracy Theory, they r trying to block felines from gaining geek knowledge, gonna IM PETA w/complaint of feline discrimination, if that don't work maybe I will report to software forum.

    Hi Peg

Yes, opens fine for me as it must be reigndeer friendly :)

Have you updated anything like your Web Browser of late? but in any case delete your cookies and temp internet files then try again.

Gotta be something on my pc

    Thanks Halo,

I did update to IE7, but was getting the error in IE6 too, so has to be something on my pc. I clean cookies/temp regularly n cleaned again, error still there.

I checked MS IE forum...info said its an add on, so turned off all add ons to IE, still get error.

One ref. said it was malware, so tossed everything at pc/scanned it with online scanners, did 4 malware scans, trojan hunt, all they see is some cookies n i can delete them, so no problems there.

I have no other problems n haven't noticed anything strange going on. I think the kitty is guilty waaaaaaa, must be some setting on my pc, so if i want something in geekionary I will hit the search button n it will pop up or ask somebody to clue me in. Not really a problem, it's like someone put a do not enter sign on the door, so now i'm curious. I found the Arcade today, so I have something else to break.

    Peg

Don't feel alone, Cat . . . I just tried to open it and got the same error message (after a brief lock-up). Right now I am on a Win2000 machine with IE6. I dunno what the problem is.
Like you, I'm going to check for malware, etc.

    To arms! To arms!

    Hi Halo,

I uninstalled Flash, reinstalled. Uninstalled Java, reinstalled, error still there but I can read geekionary, so my mind is at peace - was driving me nutz that I could not get in. Thanks for your help, u rock!

Strange thing is that I'm at work now and on a completly different pc, software environment...same exact error, same line 414. Tried other users, works fine for them. Me bad kitty I called IT and reported error, they will come look at it when they get time.

@ Natakel glad someone else had the error, thought I was a nut, also really happy Halo got it fixed for you.

    Hi Peg

Sorry its not working for you, curious thing is that its happening at your Home and Work PCs.

Could possiblly be the temp and internet folders need the contents deleted, to whatever security programs you have blocking it, maybe advert blocking software.. look for applications that are on both PCs to try and narrow down a culprit.

    Hi again Halo,

Think I got a clue, looked for .php 414 error & got this, no time to find cure, but think I'm on the right track.

"I had a look in my apache error log and it said that the “Allowed memory size ... This is because at around line 414 in image-gallery.php it checks for an..."

There r a lot of ref to line 414 in php files, something to do with my memory setting or similar i think. Checked out memory at crucial.com, memory is ok, no errors.

Only thing that both computers work/home have in common is very high firewall settings, so gave majorgeeks key to front door @ home, did not change error. (i changed settings back to normal again)

I will look into php answers this weekend.

@josh, think the game is Clue n old who done it board game.

Thanks for all ur help, this started as a amusement thread, smiles n thanks for ur patience. The bright side is that I'm getting an education in the process.

    Merry Christmas all,

I think i finally figured it out, line 414 is like a hand shake and my computer does not shake hands. I tried putting MGs in approved site list, but did not fix it. I could change settings but then it would allow every site (they might not use antibacterial soap). I think I can make an advanced rule in firewall, but that will take some more reading.

"Fix bug where IP address wasn't displayed in 414 error responses" either my computer or server is looking for IP and when does not receive, u get error.

Checked nieces pc too, same error, so it's the firewall response i think.

    Smiles & Wishing u n yours a Merry Christmas,

    Peg

    It's gone!

Ok, now I'm really confused...error at work n home are gone now. I did not do anything to work pc, tortured home pc for something else. But the error is gone.

So...not what i thought it was. I wish I knew what stopped it tho, still curious.

    Smiles n error free,

    Peg

Ya, glad it's gone...IT friend @ work came to look at it today n glared at pc "where's the error" brought up geekionary, worked fine. He just shook his head n said ok peg, no error. Luckily he knows i'm only a part-time nut.

I kinda of wish it was still there for him to look at tho, lol. Curious at what caused it. So I checked home, gone too (was gonna ask him to glare at home pc).

hmm i think i will give them something to do...lol...found a game error in arcade last week, could not play the stick people shoot em up game. I will have to go see if i can break it again.

I sure did a lot of reading to see if i could figure out the error n found out that my pc had enabled remote control of pc and a lot of other things i was not aware of, so error did make me think...not all bad.

    Peg

Peg, This place definitely helps keep you on your toes. Before I found this site, I had incapacitated 2 PC's that were probably only suffering from spyware or a virus. Since then, I got both of them running again and have kept mine and the wife's PC's free from bugs and tweaked them to run like new or better (mine):) I even have my step-son and daughter asking for help. I used to just read posts, now I even give some simple advice once in a while:eek:
