Two things i hate out of every thing in this world Ants and birds.

I find birds to be more annoying than they use to be.

Ants are non stop if they find a honey spot of sugary stuff.

I had a Ant attack this year some do and some don't.But there are ways to kill them off easy to protect your house.Ants can survive water no matter how much you put down.

I found the best way to kill-em instantly is salt around the areas that they are attracted to sweets or just plane any item left around.I all so mix Dish soap with water in a big buck it with a lot of salt. And than i pour enough water / salt mix around the very edge of the house.

Now for a caution for those that try this.It can and will brown grass and kill flowers. The reason is be cause it will lower the PH in the soil and ants will not cross Salt they hate it.

Hope this helps you guys with ant problems.

Oh i just use normal table salt be cause it has that pour thingy on it to make it easier.

If you got pets this is the way to go.In stead of using harsh stuff that can kill-em.

I have a set of trees that they like to concentrate into be for winter and i mean there is over 100 of them.

Hearing 100 + birds in the mornings kinda annoys some people.Especially people like me that have sensitive hearing.

They do play an important role in the ecosystem to a point. When that point is met there just annoying.

There is a lot of stuff out there that hates salt.Salt is more friendly than some of that other items that are on stocked shelves. Some of that stuff in stores are more harm full to the environment.

At least with plants you can increase the PH in the soil next year when you use salt water mix for ants.

Your trees must provide certain flowers/seeds which attracts the birds. I have a variety of birds that visit, and sometimes the garden sounds like a noisy aviary - and at these times it can be annoying, but it isn't a daily occurrence, but rather a seasonal thing:

The most regular and daily is a family of three Laughing Kookaburra (I think they nest in one of my trees) which are very noisy when they "laugh":
    upload_2017-10-2_9-23-6.jpeg
There's also a nest of African Minor Birds nearby who compete with the Kookaburras...they are constantly chasing off (unsuccessfully) other birds and used to swoop on my cat but since stopped when he jumped up and almost caught one of them:
    upload_2017-10-2_9-32-5.jpeg
The Currawong (whose cry sounds like some expletive ("f**k") are often chased off by the territorial Minor Birds - the "babies" often seem to get lost and end up walking around gardens, becoming open prey to dogs/cats and pounced upon by other territorial birds:
    upload_2017-10-2_9-42-57.jpeg
Next noisiest but not as regular visitors are the Cockatoos (Galahs) - sometimes getting a small flock - their loud squawks can drive you crazy - pretty as they are, thankfully they only visit on occasion:

Seasonal, the Lorikeets come in family groups when one of my large trees is flowering:
I find the cat seems to keep most the birds in control, bar for the Kookaburra family of three which seem to fascinate him with their loud "laugh"...

Night time, I can hear the Fruit Bats that visit mine and neighbouring trees - you can hear and see them flying around in groups come dusk around Sydney (which is green with trees and parks):
    upload_2017-10-2_9-38-20.jpeg

Sounds like you need a couple of cats(?).

I find ants become active as a sign of rain coming...which is particularly noticeable outdoors. Thankfully, none come indoors by keeping counters, floors everything clear of any food stuffs (also discourages cat from exploring counter and stove tops when I'm not around). The cat's dish is elevated on a "cat floor table" - used when he had a back injury and found it convenient to continue its use by spraying its underside and base every three months when I found it prevented any undesirables accessing his food dish...so ants are discouraged from entering the house;)

    Thanks Eldon.

Your African birds are delicate looking creatures...lovely to look at...I was taken by your Fork-tailed Drongo.

    (As an aside -
We have an Aussie slang term "Drongo" to apply to someone viewed as a stupid/slow-witted/simpleton (came about early 20th Century - still used though replaced by contemporary version of "Tool" used by the younger generation).

Your Malachite Sunbird is particularly beautiful:

Over the past few years, the Australian White Ibis has suddenly taken over any where there are parks...all over Sydney, particularly in our Hyde Park in central business district (CBD):

What type of birds do you have WEC? Are they the one type or a variety? Are they seasonal (visit your trees different times or there all year 'round?
If they are the one type of 100+ bird squawking all year around would drive one to distraction...I know how noisy it can be when I'm home during seasons it gets bird noisy...times I've been on the phone, people have thought I was visiting some aviary.

    Cheers

I, also, feel that ants, as well as birds are an important part of the ecology. Think of the ant eater, and birds of prey, too
In the UK, I suppose the pigeon family are the worst for droppings, but during the wars , I understand pigeon pie was on the menu - everything in this world is here for a reason, I believe.
As with everything control is sometimes a bad word. Food source is possibly one main key- as said, by Elodon-
I am more concerned with the worlds increasing Rat population, and food source plays such a large part there , especially in todays wasteful society, and slovenly generation of chuck it on the floor/path/outside shops, and take away premises- seeing rats running about in daylight in a car park, and outside table area of a McDonalds, turned me right off these places.

Luckily I have no vermin, though on occasion if I spot a "roach" I immediately spray all boundary fences to act as a barrier from neighbourhood "visitors" . The next day, the neighbours have roaches writhing around their fences affected by my deterrent spray. The neighbours immediately get their place fumigated and "voila"... roaches GONE!
    upload_2017-10-4_11-59-42.png

Thankfully no rats, but there are mice in back garden near my compost bin. But my Laughing Kookaburras quickly swoop down for a feed - so they're not a problem either!

Sounds like you need screens on your windows and doors to keep the bugs out...I also have one of these to keep bugs away from cat dish (if left with food when I'm out) and it works for me...used it for years, just plug it in and forget about it - this it the Australian one - expect you should have something similar else try purchasing this one:

Spiders are good for the garden - particularly in summer, they get rid of nasties and mosquitoes outside...plus they are all part of the food chain for Nature...Either get insect screens for windows and doors else try that electrical Pest Repeller.

I remove spiders that wander into the house put them outside...before the cat finds them. I always look for two as they always seem to come in pairs! Thankfully, nothing that bites or is poisonous. But we do get the occasional "Daddy Long Legs" that might get blown into the house, they are mainly outside - and don't last long because the birds quickly eat them.

I don't mind spiders in the garden, they get rid of nasty flies, beetles and other annoying insects that may bite me or infect/eat my plants/tree leaves...so I consider them to be friends and some spider web patterns can be quite beautiful, particularly after the rain.

These spiders are common in my garden and pretty harmless - I let them enjoy the garden and they take care of the insects I don't want in it - a WIN/WIN situation:

    St. Andrew’s Cross Spiders
The X shape is called the St. Andrew’s cross because it is believed that the saint was martyred on a cross of this shape rather than the conventional cross shape.
    https://puxccbo05z-flywheel.netdna-ssl.com/wp-content/img/stancross.jpg

    Leaf Curling Spider
You can't see these babies unless you disturb their web, then they'll nosy out to see if it's prey, if not, they return inside the leaf they've curled into housing for themselves...funny creatures.

    Garden ORB Weaving

    https://australianmuseum.net.au/Uploads/Images/9264/W18%20Eriophora%201_big.jpg
This one makes its web every evening, so I have to watch where I walk at night in the garden. Come daylight, the web is gone and he/she is tucked away on a tree leaf, then come evening, it redoes its web...funny creature.
So you see, these can be friendly creatures if we respect each other's space. upload_2017-10-4_12-38-43.png

10 Fascinating Mythological Creatures Of The British Isles

    And then there's the paranormal:

"England is packed full of weird and wonderful paranormal stories and supernatural tales. Whether you are into witches, ghosts, UFOs or strange supernatural creatures, England pretty much has it all. From the crop circles of the west count
ry through to the ghosts of old London, England is one of the world's top paranormal hot-spots."

So personally, I'll happily settle for our spiders (except for those deadly), which takes care of nasties in Nature's food chain

While I've been to places (unaware of its haunted reputation), I wouldn't willingly organise to visit same, like the Quarantine Station[1] at Manly. And there's a 14.2km (8.8miles) stretch of lonely, bush lined road[2] I use regularly (and will continue to do so), near where I live. Though I admit (thinking back), when driving through at night I always become tense and focused - then once past the stretch, I return to my normal relaxed manner of driving. I've never known it to be haunted - but once I found out I understood why I went through those changes when driving - and still do without realising I'm doing it.

    I looooaaathe cockroaches:eek:
    upload_2017-10-21_23-4-49.jpeg
I prefer spiders any day and always know if the neighbours have a problem when I spot them outside...then I spray all boundaries and the neighbours get the hint to deal with them when they see the horrid critters on their backs squirming on their side of the fence.:p

To be honest not so much as UK snow is generally all of +/- 1" the worst part is other drivers not used to driving in snow as they drive too quickly so cannot stop in time, so accidents, same in wet and dark weather, see driving standards fall in winter in UK.

Personally I love driving in snow, so long as I'm the only one on the road.

We're at the end of snow season in snow country here. I've been driven but never driven in snow. Normally fly to/from. Rain doesn't worry me, but I reckon rain and snow would be hazardous.

IF you are ever out and about in Pittsburgh,Pa area.I think these people drive crazy.I mean crazy. These people will cut off school bus drivers doing 50 or more. And than there are the traffic back up.God are system is so broken over here.Just like the government.

The reason being is most insects absorb through the skin or what ever they have.Like frog's if you noticed there are less frog's now than there where ten years ago.Frog's absorb through there skin as well.If the environment is bad around them.Like Toxic fums than of course they will decline after a while.People don't realize this.I want a super car but that super care will decline the environment faster.Just like destroying a Field of trees for nothing at all. There is another reason.Even deer have no where to hide really in the certain parts of the US be cause people are getting to greedy.
