Who is the Top Gear driver "The Stig"?

    Financial documents suggest identity of Top Gear driver "The Stig"

    New documents have been unearthed which suggest the BBC Top Gear stunt driver known as The Stig may be a former racing driver called.....

    I thought he might have been Michael Schumaker. :-D
    He did appear as "The Stig" in one episode of Top Gear. :major

    The stig is no one person, but is various professional drivers or generic "actors". Though Schumaker did do the most of the laps on the lap/test board. Of corse none of what I am saying can be confirmed nor denied. But that is kind of the point.:cool

    I would highly doubt an actor can drive that well (actors will be used for the glitzy stuff that involves no racing), maybe the odd one who races semi-pro, but looking at his driving style that is a racing driver.

    Think the BBC will throw out the odd misdirection info at times to throw folk off the sent, but while the thought of Ben Collins, it was only a hint, even Perry McCarthy was outed 2 or 3 times before he released his autobiography.

    Ben Collins maybe one of the drivers, but I agree with ACE there is likely to be 3 or 4 of them, most likely from F1, GT, Touring or WRC drivers I would guess at.


    But as an update to this the BBC are taking HarperCollins the publishers to the high court

    True 99% of the time the stig is surely a professional driver of one kind or another. But what I meant by a generic actor is when the stig is just there as more of a prop then an actual driver. Though no examples of that come to mind atm. I blame lack of sleep. :tired

    I agree ACE, the stunts that dont involve driving will be likely someone from the Top Gear office as opposed to the race driver, and one of the races that does spring to mind in which The Stig did not drive was the Car vs Bike vs Public Transport vs Boat race in London, The Stig was on Public Transport.

    Been other small bits in which he played Top Trumps etc

    A couple of interesting spellin ;) mistakes in the article quoted. :-D

    Even a spell check wouldn't have caught these errors. :)

    Wrong link. Basically Perry McCarthy was {for the most part} the black stig. After he revealed his role as the black stig in his autobiography they killed the black stig off.

    Somewhere it was in a newpaper of ours here that the BBC even before the court ruling came that Ben Collins could publish his book came about yesterday, the BBC had a new Stig anyways, they where doing a test in Germanys Nürburgring last week.


    TBH the Stig needs to go, its been done now and Top Gear need to thing of something else, plus the previous "white" Stig was beaten around the track by Rubens Barrichello the last series.

    Perry McCarthy = (ex) Black Stig; Bill Collins =white Stig, has been an open secret for ages. The so-called anonymity is mainly so that they can substitute Co. Test Drivers for when manufactures don't want their very expensive vehicles wrecked. The Schumacher thing was just a fairly lame publicity stunt. (Even Clarkson can't afford Schumacher’s fees regularly;))
