Running Vista Home Premium/BitDefender Internet Security 2009

I just installed Service Pack 1 and 2, using a clean boot for both. Everything went smooth. There didn't appear to be any problems. Then I noticed I had the icon for Windows Security Alert in my tool bar.

First it was showing my anti spyware was shut off. It said "Windows Defender and Spyware Doctor both report that they are turned off."

That is how it's always been and should be because BDIS 2009 has anti spyware. I open, update and run the scanner on Spyware Doctor a couple of times a week, but I have all the real time protection disabled on it so that it doesn't interfere with BDIS.

This alert finally went away and then next time I booted it was showing that BDIS needed to have it's virus definitions updated. I kept selecting to update and BD kept telling me there were no updates available. Finally it did update and then the alert went away so I thought all was well.

The next time I booted the alert about Defender and Spyware Doctor was back and I can not get rid of it. According to BD everything is up and running. I don't know whether I should be concerned or not. Does anyone know what might have caused this to happen or what can fix it?

I did that command thing to check WMI and it said that was consistent. I also opened a command and ran SCF /SCANNOW and it reported "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations." Last night before turning in I also rebooted and ran that Error Checking with both options selected.

If anyone has any help or advice for me I'd appreciate it.

    Thanks

Don't know about Vista, but on XP the Security Center does not recognize every AntiVirus or vFirewall program, then you get those messages.
Then you tell it you have a program that you will monitor yourself and all is good.

I get the same notification about windows firewall being turned off,
I have ESET as my AV and it has a built in firewall but i still get the flag,

Thanks to everyone for your responses. I really don't want to turn off the security center. I want to find out what's causing this to happen.

I've had BitDefender for over a year and never had a problem until I installed SP1 and SP2. I guess it's got to have something to do with this but don't know what.

I wrote to BitDefender support; they wrote back asking me for some files which I sent. That's been three days ago and haven't heard a word back from them.

Anyway, thanks again and if anyone comes across what might be causing this problem please let me know.

By the way, it is recognizing BitDefender's firewall and the antivirus, but is not recognizing the spyware protection module.
