It began to be once every few months, now it's a few times a week. The internet connection will be lost (windows XP). Have to unplug modem, unplug router, wait 30seconds, replug modem, replug router. (that is the correct way, right?) Nothings really been changed, any ideas?

Could be your ISP, modem, router, or Network Interface Card, could try flushing DNS, maybe a firewall issue as well...I would start by taking the router out of the equation...direct connection to modem, that would be my first guess, the router. Is it wireless? How long has it been in use?

Do the lights go off on the modem or does the computer just lose the internet connection?
Have you tried another browser just to be sure it isn't a problem with your browser?
