Jonah your post is somewhat confusing... a short while ago you were talking about Linus, did you change, did it work? Xp has long been discontinued and it is very difficult to get any sort of support for it. Loading non genuine drivers is a risky
business and should be avoided. Why if I may ask are you using an outdated system? The link you provided has all the info/warnings you need. If I were you I would search Ebay for a copy of XP if indeed that's what you want. I suspect you never had much luck with Linux!

We have two XP computers. We do not use them on the internet. Be safe, use the hardware but get it off the internet.
We still print labels on the one XP computer. We have an old (around 1997) HP 722C attached to it. My husband takes the database from another computer via USB stick and uses that to print labels.

It is the only computer that Windows Media Player was set up on because I resurrected this computer from the dump. (I never use WMP nor set up on any of our other computers.) I discovered I could rip old CDs we own using WMP. So I fired it up and did that to get mp3 songs for our mp3 players.

I don't think I've updated any drivers in it. I rarely update drivers on any computer.

You haven't mentioned any specs on these computers. Some are sold with the bare minimum of storage, RAM and a low CPU. That would make any computer crawl.
I made a comment about your Aspire 1 in another thread. If you look at the specs on the model I found, they are low.
