Why did this Happen?

I am running windows xp home (legal Copy), I bought and activated it about 6 months ago. Well today, actually a little while ago I went in to my msconfig settings to stop certain services from running in the background. Well, when I was done, I restarted the computer and a Message Popped up saying "Since windows was first activated on this computer, the hardware on the computer has changed significantly, and that I needed to reactivate windows. I never changed anything, this happened right after I was in msconfig changing startup programs and services. Does anyone no what might have triggered this off?

Not sure of a service that would do that, but if you have to, I have called Microsoft before and its quick and they were very helpful. Maybe someone else will know of a service that could cause this and will respond.

FYI, in the future, you get more help when you use a better topic, in other words, this topic might draw the attention of someone who could help if it had a title like "Windows XP wants to be reactivated" or "Services that cause activation to reset" as examples

Never heard of that one before. You don't have to worry about reactivating xp though. Painless procedure. That's if you can't sort out what is going on.

You could try turning those things back on you turned off. Or try doing a system restore to a recent point.

Stopping the Plug and Play service can have this effect. You still have to reactivate though.

Just an FYI.

Also disabling a service called Reset will do it as well
