Why do I have 7 svchost.exe processes running?

I'm looking at the running processes on a Dell Inspiron 6000 and it shows 7 instances of svchost.exe running. Is this normal? I think the system is clean, but maybe there are some bugs I missed?!?!?

Here's a good article on svchost, you probably don't have a problem although there are some badware that may use this program.

It's quite normal to have several of those running.
But if you have scvhost.exe running thats a different matter

 

Yes, that is normal. I also have 7 of them appearing now in my Task Manager list. Here's some info from Microsoft: A description of Svchost.exe in Windows XP Professional Edition.
