Why do my browsers (both IE & Firefox) Shut down?

Hi,

Can somebody please explain why both IE and Firefox both shut down when I try to upload pictures?

I have updated Java and flash to the latest versions, have checked the PC for malware with spybot, bitdefender etc, but still have the same problems.

Hi,

I don't think so, but I could be wrong!

Is it worth reinstalling Mozilla to see if it cures it for that browser at least?

If it is happening in *both* browsers then don't even bother to reinstall Firefox. The nature of the problem is clearly not browser-dependent.
As far as add-ons/plug ins are concerned it is only likely to be that if both browsers have an add on from the same source developer.

What we really need to know is the exact action you are trying to take so that we know the very specific set of events that causes the crash in either browser.

You should also give your Operating System specs, eg Win2000/XP - with or without SP2/Vista etc, and the Internet Explorer version (IE6, IE6 SP2 Updated, IE7) and Firefox version.

Hello Mark,

OK, PC is running XP, updates were done last week (because of the problem)
IE7, Mozilla 5.0.

Basically, I am trying to upload pictures from my PC to the online photo host 'Photobucket'.

When I try to upload the pictures via either browser, the browser just shuts down.

Ok well I think you mean Mozilla Firefox v2.0.0.xx- something (2.0.0.14 being the latest) - since it isn't even at 3 yet you need to look immediately under the big red 'Firefox' in 'About Mozilla Firefox' and it says in light grey 'version 2......' - 'Mozilla/5.0' is part of the user agent much lower down which itself ends in '2.xxxxxxxx'

So can you tell us if this has started happening recently; was uploading happening fine before; and what has it coincided with - you mention having done some Windows Updates 'because of this problem' - can you explain what you actually mean by that?

This started a couple of weeks ago, basically I am trying to upload some item pictures onto ebay.co.uk but I can't do it either via the ebay site itself or via photobucket web picture-hosting.

So are you saying the moment you click on photobucket's 'upload image' button - in either browser, the browsers just crash? It helps if you say exactly and precisely what single action causes the crash.

And can you answer the 3 questions asked earlier about:
- that you installed updates to fix this problem - please explain
- were you able to successfully upload pictures using photobucket before?
- did the 'crashing' coincide with those updates you did - the ones you need to explain?

- that you installed updates to fix this problem - please explain - Just microsoft updates, I thought some XP software might need updating, but the crashing persists. I downloaded all the updates that Microsoft told me I needed to.
- were you able to successfully upload pictures using photobucket before? - Yes I was.
- did the 'crashing' coincide with those updates you did - the ones you need to explain? - no, the crashing happened before and after the updates.

The crashing happens precisely when I click the upload button, I hear the hard drive go into overdrive, and that's it, the browser (either one) shuts down.

Hi. Im using ebay.co.uk. When i try to look at a listing i get a message saying that internet explorer has encountered a problem and needs to shut down. This does not happen on any other site. Not even on ebay.com. Also this never happens in the My Ebay section or any others just when viewing items. Could this be an ebay problem? Have not changed anything on my computer and it suddenly started happening on sat 19th. Any ideas?
