    Hi,
My problem is , whenever i start or restart the pc, my dsl light blinks and tries to reconnect and successfully reconnect. This happens all the time at the start of the windows, "Starting Windows".
If i remove the ethernet connection, there is no blinking in dsl and internet lights. I tried some disabling of settings in my network adapter, but this problem continues. There is no loose connection of ethernet adapter to the port or the modem.
Why this is happening, and how could i set it correct? Since, the problem disappear when ethernet is disconnected clearly shows problem in NiC , settings and ethernet.
I have enabled DHCP and my ISP is following ipv4. Any clue would be helpful

Blinking lights are showing you the device is working properly. Why are you pulling the ethernet cord?
I don't understand what problem you are having.

Hi, Sorry for lat reply. Do your dsl and internet light blinks to establish reconnection on every start or restart. My problem is the dsl light cuts and reconnect the internet access, thereby forcing the same internet cut or loss on other devices i use it thro wifi modem. When i just unplug the ethernet, this blinking never occurs and i want solultion for continuous dsl and internet for my connection

Of course it won't because there is no connection present. It's like pulling the power cord on an appliance. The appliance no longer runs because there is no connection.

There is no such thing as continuous dsl unless you keep the computer on all the time. Every time you turn off the computer, the internet connection drops. When you turn on the computer, the network goes into action and your ISP assigns you an IP for the time the computer is on.

Hi, I do not think so. As i shut down the computer only ethernet light goes off and all other lights are stay green. Am i not correct? Normally when you switch off the pc, only ethernet connection cut off there by switching off the ethernet light on the modem. All other lights are not disturbed as far as i know. Ofcourse, when you power on the pc, the ethernet light connects and it becomes green. I do not know the inner mechanism. What i actually meant is whenever i start the pc, the dsl lilght goes off and then blinks and restablish the connection. This is unsual. So, when i remove the ethernet and start the pc, there is no problem of this dsl light goes off and reconnects. I hope i explained clearly about my problem.
When the dsl goes off, all the internet connection thro other devices also loose internet connectivity. please

I don't have dsl so I don't know how a dsl modem acts. I also have all my devices attached to an UPS (Uninterruptible power supply) so none of my lights go off.

jraju, you're certainly right in that once the modem has booted up, after a minute or two, the Dsl light should remain steady until you switch the modem off. The fact it turns off, when you turn the PC on, indicates something is definitely wrong. I also use DSL and had cutoff issues in the past. I found them to be wiring setup problems. It is extremely important to install the modem according to the manufacturer's instructions. In-line filters for each telephone device is a must. Some Modems have both an RJ11 jack for the line and one for a telephone. My advice is to not use the telephone jack at all. Rather, use a splitter at the wall jack to support both the modem line and the telephone. The idea is to try and attain maximum physical isolation between the two. The line between the modem and the wall jack shouldn't exceed 10 feet length. The general rule for any electronic device wires/cables/cords is "the shorter, the better." This is also true for the Ethernet cord ... keep it short. Clean up any "rat's nest" of cords or cables, etc, behind the computer or near the modem. The idea here is to minimize the chance of extraneous noise pulses from being coupled into your Dsl system. It would be good idea if you could swap out both the modem line cord to the wall jack, and the Ethernet cable to the PC with new one's to make sure neither is a source of the problem. The Ethernet cable is suspect, since the modem is getting a noise pulse, when the PC is turned on. I'm providing a link to support for the modem, I use. Scroll down to Documentation and click on the Quick Start Guide to get a pdf for installation. It might not be the same make/model as your's, but will be generally similar. Please tell us in your next post what make and model, you have. https://www.actiontec.com/products/wifi-routers-gateways/dsl/gt784wn/ Finally, avoid any long extension cords from the modem to the wall jack in a different room ... down the hallway, etc. I did that for a short time until I got a phone company tech to come and wire up a new wall jack in the room where I operate at. Kept getting tons of Dsl drops before then.;)

    Hi, Stru..
You are correct on the description of line connectivity . I have the telephone inline , passing thro the Rosette box and then connected with RJ11 jack as line. Then this line is connected to the splitter"s Line . The modem Rj11 jack is connected with Modem output in the splitter. The telephone line jack is connected to the other Output Phone. So, I think that connection is correct. The telephone line having the filter thro splitter and the modem thro the splitter. I do not have any speed problem.
You please say, I just remove the ethernet and start the pc, there is no disconnection of dsl lights and internet light , but when i connect the same and then restart, i am having the problem. So the problem is essentially in the adapter settings, (adapter motherboard supported), or in the internet settings. I wish to state that since i was getting 1014 name resolution errors, i have disabled ipv6 in both the adapter as well as pc as per microsoft guidelines.
I disabled some of the Offload settings in the adapter to disabled .
Still it puzzles me , that i get 1014 alert error in event viewer. Micorosot has also said that this is an information and classified as error instead of information and corrected in windows 8. I am using windows 7.
So, i know that the connection error is not because of the event 1014.
I am having the latest firmware for my router and also for network adapter.
Those other noise pulses could be ruled out, because if i disconnect the ethernet there is no problem in blinking of dsl and itnernet lights. I checked the modem at dlink centre and do not find any problem. I recently changed my connection cable wire with drop cable wire instead of two sided drop wire. Still, i am getting this .
Is there any software that would list the cause of this phenomenon. I tried to enable logs on the router, but it came with just a0 link down. e1 lilnk down. Then a0 link up. e1 and ppplink up logs, without suggestting how to go about.
When i issue ipconfig , i get no ipv6 details. I even disabled ipv6 in properties of lan.
But when i issue some specific commands, i get Loopback pseudo adapter 1 as listed in command prompt details.
I also have some wan miniport hidden devices in Show Hidden devices in network adapters in device manager. I could disable but could not uninstall those. I do not know, why i get these devices show up in lan connection wired.
    Expecting solution

I did not mean for you to remove the RJ45 Ethernet cable. What I did mean is you should replace it with a different cable. You could also test your cable on a different computer setup, if you know somebody else that uses Dsl. I strongly think your Ethernet cable is bad. Another thing you can test is the electrical source outlet for correct third wire grounding. You need to use a tester, suitable for your location and the electrical system in use. Here is an example of one used in North America.

Hi, I have replaced and tried , but the dsl blinking and reconnection is continuing. I tried to uninstall miniport adapters pseudo. But , then i could not even install the driver for the network. Ofcourse, the network adapter driver had to be installed after the Windows 7, when i first installed. When all plug and play drivers are automatically installed , i had to download the required ethernet drivers from the realtek.com to get the internet access. I ahve the latest driver.
When i just connect this ethernet in laptop having xp, i do not get any problem.
So essentially it is driver or settings related.
I have enabled the dhcp settings in the internet options. In the router also the default settings for both ipv4 and ipv6 is auto obtain dns server address. I use my ISP server.
Would you throw some more light on the wireless connections that my wireless modem The smartphone is always connected to the wireless through the wifi settings in the dlink 2730 u modem. Would there by any conflict, as they are getting the internal ip in the devices and starting of pc, would it cut and reconnect?

Refer to this link http://www.sltnet.lk/en/personal/internet/broadband/support Scroll down to the diagram for connecting the router/modem to the phone. This should be similar to what you described in post #10 although there should be an in-line filter between the phone and splitter. There are two more tests for you to do. First remove the splitter and no phones; connect the RJ11 telephone line directly to the modem from the wall jack. Connect the RJ45 ethernet and do a startup. If this fails the Dsl, then disconnect the ethernet and restart the modem, then reconnect the ethernet after the computer has been started. Do either of these methods work?
The problem you are experiencing is a hardware issue. No software changes effecting the network adaptor will fix the problem. I don't rule out the network adaptor having a physical problem, especially with the RJ45 jack and electrical integrity. They do go bad sometimes. Yet, for the time being, I prefer to test the external wiring simply because it is easier to access. Please understand that the main Dsl shortcoming is it is very dependent on an acceptable signal-to-noise ratio (snr). The problem is that if you have a weak Dsl signal to start with, usually by being a long distance from the telephone exchange, then it doesn't take much noise on the line to shut it down. This can happen in an instant. My furnace used to shut the Dsl down just from the noise pulse generated/radiated, whenever the startup relays activated. Another thing you can do is listen to the telephone for noise when you start the computer.
I recommend you start a separate forum thread for your wifi network questions. That way we can stay focused on the Dsl issue here. You might get better and more replies with a separate thread.

    Hi, Stru.
Will do the test as you suggested. Meantime, could i buy a usb to ethernet adapter, and connect the useb to the usb port and then the ethernet jack in the other port. Would that connect with the motherbpard ada[ter inside the computer? Will i try this ?Will i get internet access, as i only used the usb port and joined the ethernet jack to the otherside, instead of the usual port (ethernet port) i am using? If i am getting internet access, Would the other port , create some problem.
I also noticed that my samusng phone using wlan, (from an app, i get the details) has ipv6 along with a ipv4 address like 192168.x.x
Netsh command shows a Loopback Pesudo Interface 1, which i am not using at all. Ipconfig /all does not show any ipv6 data. Would this mean anything. Smartphone is using both the address in the wlan surface. Expecting. After the reply from you , i will create a new thread to get your valuable replies.

Hi, There is no junction box. The drop cable connects thro the Rosette Box, which has wire connections at one end and rj11 jack ports , two of them on the other side. I just connected the mdoem rj11wire with the rosette box , and find there is no dsl connection established. Just the dsl light starts blinking , but does not establish the connection. But, when i connect with splitters, for both modem and telephone thro it, i get dsl establishing the connection. What to infer now? Is there anything wrong in my connection ? I also checked the telephone, there was a guirrring noise, in the telephone. But i could talk to the people.
i checked the telephone jack and modem jack in splitter and when i connect the telephone rj11 jack in modem jack port in the splitter, there was so much noise and when i connect the same with the telephone jack port, i get minimum noise disturbance. So, i think the splitter is working correctly, by filtering more on telephone and less on modem connections. please

Yes, it does sound like the splitter is working good.. What you describe with your tests, it is in fact a DSL splitter and not a simple 2-wire telephone splitter. They are different, in addition to the physical wire splitting, the DSL splitter separates the DSL signal component from the phone system for use by the modem. Here is more information. https://www.internetproviders.com/shortcut/why-do-i-need-a-dsl-splitter/ and also review the section titled "Installation problems" here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asymmetric_digital_subscriber_line

There is one more check you can do. Using the normal/correct configuration, including ethernet wire connected, but modem off, start the computer, after it starts up, then start the modem. Does the Dsl stay on steady after the modem start?

In post#11 I referred to an electrical system receptacle tester. Its important you make this test. What concerns me is if something is wrong in the electrical system, then the computer might be trying to run a ground current through the ethernet/modem to the phone system on startup.

Hi, Please refer your last post.
I trid , by switching off the modem, and restart the computer , the modem light starts normal procedure of connecting . The dsl ligh blinks , then fast, to stay green. On stay of green dsl, the internet light turns red and a few seconds stay green. This is the normal one.
I also checked the dsl connection with the link you quoted. as i do not have a wall jack, i just let it pass thro the rosette box, and connect a rj11 jack to the otherside of the Roseete Box, to connect to a adsl splitter as line, and connect the telephone in phone interface and modem in modem interface of the splitter to port on the modem rj11jack. The connection is as per the link diagram.
Why this behaviour of dsl cut when start or restart or sometimes on shutdown.
I recently changed my connection wire from drop two wires to drop cable wire, for proper speed.
But ofcours, i had some extra sound in my phone, even though, i pass it thro the splitter.
What about the usb to ethernet adapter? please.
If i suddenly raise the separate thread, the things that you give as tests would not catch the users.
If possible , i will edit the question? Is it possible?

Regarding the USB Ethernet Adaptor: You could do this, but I wouldn't expect different results because you would still have a physical connection via the ethernet cable to the modem. It would still likely conduct a noise pulse on pc startup, with the same dsl shutdown occurring. There are some other things to do in the meantime. One is to check the electrical continuity of the PC power cord. Disconnect it and, using an ohmmeter, check the continuity of each wire, especially the 3rd pin ground-wire. Otherwise, test using a different power cord, to see if the problem continues. Another thing to do is to open the PC case and re-seat the existing NIC card, unless Nic is embedded on the motherboard. If the Dsl still faults, then I am at a loss how to minimize an interfering pulse. You could then do the USB method, but I have my doubts.

I would like to get an idea of the DSL conditions, especially Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR). Using a browser, please login to the modem. If you need help, look at this link. https://www.techspot.com/guides/287-default-router-ip-addresses/
Each modem/router manufacturer has their own page information format. So, look for one that gives modem "status". Look in it for Wide Area Net (WAN) status. It should provide a list of various performance values. Please report to me both SNR downstream and upstream, and Line Attenuation (LA), down and up.

Thank you for the modem report. Values are quite suitable and even better than my system, but my system isn't great to start with. Newer modems seem to no longer provide snr, but give snr margin instead. Margin is the difference between total snr and the minimum snr, required at a specific speed, to sync the dsl signal. The normal target snr margin is 6db. A higher value is better. So, your system has good margins. https://www.giantstride.gr/snr-margin-adsl/ I was hoping your modem would also provide actual snr. This would have given me an idea how likely a noise pulse from the computer would have an effect on the dsl.
The setup chain looks good to me. I am unable to think of anything else to check or investigate with respect to the dsl circuitry. Unless someone else with new ideas and better knowledge joins this thread, then the only other path might be to get a telephone exchange technician to check over your dsl circuit from the demarcation point (drop)to the modem.
There is software that tracks margin realtime, RouterStats-Lite. I run the Plug and Play portable (zipped) version and let it stay minimized in the task bar. Its handy to see when the ISP techs work on the circuit and more especially to alert me, when something is wrong. http://www.vwlowen.co.uk/internet/files.htm
Regarding you pc, if you can borrow a different pc with ethernet, connect it in place of your pc and see what results you get.

Hi, Stru.. I tried router stats lite from the site. But i could not scan it as my router, dlink 2730u is not listed there. So, it is only for specific router that it will give statistics. am i correct?
I also tried usb 2.0 ethernet adoptor, but the speed that gives is half of the original ethernet port with mother board. So, useless try at that. Ofcourse the adoptor is not that much costlier. If i connect the same ethernet port to a xp running machine, then there is no problem at all. So, essentially, conflict with wireless and wired , both combined in a router. When i use netsh command to show ipv4 interface, it shows my realtek adapter as well as a Loopback Pseudo interface adaptor. The MTU of the loopback adopter is ,too much, and i think it is a microsoft virtual adapter. Are those actually install itself with the windows or thro window updates?
Moreover, i am having wan miniport of 8 types in my device manager in network adaptors . I just could disable them. I am not able to uninstall. If i uninstall, thro registry, then the controller is deleted and so no drivers could be installed afterwards. What are those ? Are those waste? Why those? Are those a part of my realtex adapter in their contents. Because, when i deleted entries in registry and delete one in device manager after reboot, all 8 got deleted and i had the problem of loosing controllers of the network adapter hardware showhiddennetwork.jpg

No, not necessarily. Select some of the other dlink models to see if one will work; e.g. 2680 or 2740b.
Regarding usb ethernet adaptor, even though it was slow, were you able to start the pc without shutting down the dsl?

I have tried the first thing, not successful
No the problem still persists . The speed drastically reduced to half of the speed. But the adaptor has in it that it will support from 10/100mbps

Based on the different checks/tests, which you did, there is no reason I can see your Dsl system (including modem) is at fault. It works fine, using a secondary computer. You report the Dsl fault only occurs, when your PC is directly connected to the modem via ethernet on startup. Upon rebooting the modem, the Dsl holds stable and the ethernet processes normally. So, I conclude the issue isn't with the Dsl system at all, but with your PC instead.
You did use an alternate circuit path with the USB-ethernet adaptor, which resulted in the same adverse Dsl shutdown. This leads me believe you have a hardware issue with the PC and not a software issue. I think the ethernet signal voltages/transitions are out of tolerance, at least for an instant on startup, which exceed the limits of the Modem Dsl signalling circuitry. This results in the modem cutting off the Dsl.
I could be wrong in my analyses and conclusions. I am not a hardware specialist and I am very open at this point for anyone, who is, to enter this thread and make some more technically enlightened posts than I've done. You didn't state any secondary problems such as BSODs, unexpected PC shutdowns, graphics issues, etc. Thus, I don't have enough information to go on to pursue a further diagnosis. A service bench technician, handy with an oscilloscope, could likely determine the exact problem component in a matter of a few minutes for you. Remotely, I can't do anything more at this point.
What can you do now? Well, how old is the PC? If it is brand new, take it back! I suppose the voltage regulation of the power supply unit (PSU) might be unstable on startup and could be replaced. Yet, if this were so, I would expect you would be having other problems, as well as with the ethernet signal. I am more inclined to think the cause is related to an incorrect RC time constant controlling the IC pulse generator for the ethernet signal. This means a capacitor (C) is starting to go bad. If the PC is old, this isn't out of the ordinary, especially if heat has been involved over a number of years. So, keep the PC dust free, well ventilated and cool. Unfortunately, you will still need to reboot the modem for ethernet after PC startup.

Your router-modem stats look good overall. Margins are above target and attenuation is very good.
The only comment I have for the new installation is to check all motherboard mount screws are snug for good electrical grounding to the chassis. Information for other things to check needs to come from a hardware specialist.
