why does my bios say single channel memory mode?

    My bios says 1024MB ram, single-channel memory mode

    512MB/166MHZ
    512MB/166MHZ

    Any idea why it says is running in singlechannel memory mode? And how to get to run in dual channel?

    which motherboard and have you looked in the manual for the correct slots to put the ram modules in to gain Dual Channel ( differs from each mobo vendor )

    I'm learning a LOT from you guys, thanks! I looked in manual, and foudn that I had to put ram in slots 1, 3 OR 2, 4, OR all 4, of same type of ram to enable dual channel. I had in slots 3, 4. I move dot 1, 3, and is now running in dual channel, but I don't notice any type of system improvement.

    Dual Channel wont give you a massive what you can see type of performance hit, but it will help in memory intensive applications, they will calculate/process data quicker.

    what would have been a good idea IF I had thought of it at the time was to run a memory benchmark, Everest or SANDRA on the single channel setup ( write down or screenshot the results ) then do same in dual channel.

    I did the benchmark, and it almost doubled. From single to dual channel. But I didn't SEE any difference. I'm going to lose the dual channel again though cuz I just ordered 1 gig 400mhz ram, so I'm going to be running 1.5 gig @400mhz, rather than 1 gig 333mhz.
