    Hi,

My guess is that you have a new PC and you are getting a pop-up message about your computer not being secure. If this is the case then the rest of the message is probably telling you that you do not have an AntiVirus installed.

Windows is warning you that connecting to the internet without running an AntiVirus is leaving your machine vulnerable to viruses and malware.

You should be looking to find and run an AntiVirus program.

If I misunderstood the problem please let me know. If you need suggestions on an antivirus also let us know.

    Hi

As sach2 said, securing your computer means having the proper protection installed.

    You should have:

    1 Antivirus
    1 Firewall
    1 AntiMalware

There are other things you can do, but that is what you should definitely have...starting today if you don't already have it.

    I use:
    Avira -Free
Windows 7 Firewall (installed by default by Microsoft and works for me)
SuperAntispyware - you must pay for this for the protection

See this thread for how to best secure your computer: How to Protect yourself from malware!

We all know Internet Explorer can not be separated from the windows system. They also made that claim it can but we know that IE is part of the OS.

It will take alot of programming do separated IE from the OS.

On last note when comes to Unix,Linux ,windows or OS X you need Java , Java script , script and Flash so how can any OS be secure when you need Java , Java script , script and Flash for web sites to work :confused

Windows7's is all you need on a firewall. Fairly good program. MHO.

Super-antispyware free program in this sight

Along with the free -> http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_Anti-Malware_d5756.html

On Java, just remember to un-install the older version in add-remove. When you get a newer version. This dosen't apply to up-dates to the version installed.

You will need the newest version of power point viewer to view emails that used power point to create.

On any firewall used. Just remember. Any program does not need to be a server.

    Hope this helped.

It does not allow outbound traffic; it is a true two-way firewall. (win7 may have a two way firewall, XP did not). On the computers I have an old version of ZA working on, IE can not access the internet until I give it permission - which I like.

Does Java , Java script , script and Flash need to be turn off or do I need software to filter it?

I removed Java from all but one computer; I have yet to find anything that fails to work. You might not need Java installed.

I use FF a addon to turn of javascript and flash. http://noscript.net/
I enable what I want on trusted websites. I can either enable permanently or temporarily.

I'm guessing it's one of the easier ways for malicious coders to infect machines as many people don't use addons like NoScript.

That and flash / java code can be executed from within the browser without the need of the victim needing to download and open a file.

What settings do I have to go in to tighten up the OS ?

Other than getting Antivirus , Firewall ,AntiMalware , good router with security and addons like NoScript what more can one do .:cool Is Norton or Kaspersky the best Antivirus out there if one has money? I hear that SuperAntispyware and Malwarebytes are the best AntiMalware .

I hear spybot search and destroy and adware SE are not has good like thay used to be before at removing malware .I belive that spybot search and destroy pro or SuperAntispyware have real time blocking where Malwarebytes and adware SE are just tools to remove malware.

Other than getting these programs , turning UAC up really high and browsing the internet with standard or guest account what more can I do to secure the OS.
