Why don't aol processes stop after closing out aol?

Yes, we have AOL....aol 9.0 SE. Hubby refuses to get rid of it - he likes the way it works...he's used to it. I don't like how many resources it uses, how it slows down the computer, and how the processes (in task manager) keep running even after closing out aol (we are on broadband, not dialup, AOL is not the ISP, so I see no reason why aol processes should keep running after AOL has been closed out). My questions are: WHY do the aol processes (aolload.exe, aolsoftware.exe, aolacsd.exe, etc) keep running after AOL is closed out, and HOW can I get the processes to end by themselves (without me having to manually end them) after aol gets closed out?

What OS have you? This blog here Anti-AOL could have the answer you're looking for.

    OS is Windows XP Home.

I've checked out that site before....there's no answer to my question, but I just emailed them to see if they can answer my question.

You know, iTunes does the same thing, it seems it's usually running 2-3 processes in the backround when it's not open just soaking up computer cycles. Any answer would be appreciated. :)

And Windows Live Photo Gallery. It uses some QuickTime files. Believe it or not!

Because AOL is "junk" software. (I decided to be polite and not call it crap) opps. LOL

You can end it's processes but you need to do it manually. You can do that with Task Manager or any of several apps that deal with processes.
    One of those is http://majorgeeks.com/Process_Explorer_d4566.html.

I have always wondered why someone has not made an app that will kill all AOL processes with one click. :confused

This is one qoute I found:
