Why I hate internet shopping

Here's my rant and I've run into this actually a few times and it's the bane of my internet shopping existence.

You're browsing a website, one you may or may not have been on before and as you're going you're adding things to your cart. Finally you decide you have what you want and you go to check out when you get the message "X item(s) is currently sold out" ughhh....seriously??

I mean if it's in my cart, it totally should be accounted for as being mine already! To me it's like, say I went to Target and put the last box of cookies in my basket and as I'm walking around picking up more items, a Target employee comes over to me and removes the cookies from my basket because someone else saw them and wants to buy them. That would totally NOT fly! So why is it acceptable online?

If you want more people to visit and purchase from your website, making their visit a frustrating one is a surefire way to keep them from coming back.

This is why I love going to the store, picking up my items, and seeing them, feeling them and taking them home with me immediately. Online shopping sucks! :-D

I love and hate internet shopping.... some sites are not easy to buy things from and jumping through hoops to create a new account is nothing I wish to do.

I do hate the online bit as you say that you click "buy" and then at checkout its out of stock!.... F/off and collect as store is another PITA for me, click the collect at store and it states will be delivered in 3 days.... WHAT!

Online shopping great in the main but I agree with your /rant Jen

Days?? I've never had to wait days, an hour maybe and that's why I actually like the collect at the store, I've done that a couple times and it's saved me loads of time!

I've don't mind shopping on amazon or walmart, their websites have never given me a problem but tons of other sites have. I guess it boils down to how well their inventory is set up?

Bah, give me a good old fashioned store any day.

I don't think I've ever run into an item being out of stock once I place it in my cart. More than once I've run into an item listed as out of stock so I can't add it, or with a warning that there are only so many left. One of my jewelry supply houses does the "only six remaining" thing, along with a warning that if you add it to your cart but do not purchase right away it could be sold, but they give you a certain number of minutes after which that can happen.

I hate shopping in general, but especially with how frequently I'm on crutches the last few years, I shop online for a lot of things that are easy to find in stores. It's worth paying shipping to not have to deal with finding an open handicap spot (or having to walk from far away when there isn't one) and having to not only walk through the store but try to figure out how to carry stuff or push a cart. If I had an assistant who would drop me off at the door, handle my stuff, and pick me back up at the door, I might. But as it is...nope.

One of my PC parts wholesalers is notorious for this. I'll place an order online, drive over to pick it up and be told that one or more items are "out of stock." The only reason I put up with it is that it only happens less than 5% of the time, and their low prices and no-hassle returns on DOA products balance things out.

For online orders that ship, I use Amazon Prime almost exclusively and an very satisfied with it. They clearly state "only (number) left" on low-stock items, and I have yet to place an order that resulted in an e-mail stating they were out of stock. For mundane items like replacement water filters, it takes five minutes to order versus spending 45 minutes driving to Home Depot and searching for the item.

But, on the other hand, people often put things in their cart, and never check out. In a real store, you could load up your cart, wander around the store for a few hours, then just leave, without buying anything.

I think they go more 'real time' where if they have 10 items, they are sold as they are paid for.
