Hiya, I'm having a problem with my computer being underclocked for some reason. It should be running as a 1.4 ghz but it's only running at 1.05 for some reason.

Change you FSB in the bios to 133/266 ;) .......

Could have been set for heat purposes, does your system run hot.

That's what I'm wondering too. Is there a test out there to determain how hot my computer is running?

I just ran a test and it says my case temp is 100 degree's F and the CPU is 134 degree's with the fan running at 5,113 rpm or so. Could that be a reason too that it's underclocked?

FSB is set incorrectly - these boards can run at 133
Your temp is alright for a 1.4 Athlon - I would worry if it was above 80C (175f) they normally run mid 70's on full load.

Is your CPU fan adjustable? Flat out is not the most efficient as it creates back-pressure over the cooling fins

Okay, I went into the bios and didn't see an option to change the FSB...the only thing that I saw that may come close is CPU Speed and it's currently set at 100/100mhz and can go to 100/133mhz, 133/133mhz, 166/133mhz. And the CPU Frequency is the first number and the DRAM Frequency is the second number I do believe. So I'm not sure if that was it or not. So how would I change the FSB to 133?

set it to 133/133 if that is unstable ( crashes ) run 133/100...............

I went into my bios and changed it to 133/133 and it booted up at 1.4 ghz but my computer got way too hot for my liking...70 degree's C so I need to either put in a new fan or some kind of heatsink or something to cool it down. Any recommendations?

thunderbirds get hot and from my expereance thay take heat realy well too so if its stable at thows temps .......but that is pritty warm ( even for a thunderbird) id go for a Thoroughbred or barton core when you get a chance the 0.18 cores run way cooler .....you whould prolly be better off spending the $ on a cooler CPU then getting a better cooler and youl get a speed boost in the prosses ;) ....

I'd agree - a decent cooler and fan would probably cost as much as an XP2400 cpu. Then you start playing all over again! ;)
