    hey,
ive just got a new wireless network setup this consists of the folowing :

netgear modem conected @ 2.2mps internet conection provided by wanadoo
    netgear wireless router speed @108mbps

curently im on only runing a laptop on it as i am waiting for a new network cable,
but i have a slight quiery and its realy bugging me,when i conect to the router wirelessly it says my internet conection is conected @ 100mps ,which isnt realy true as the internet conection speed is 2.2mbps .But it does make sense in a way because the cable conection between the router and the modem is 100mps,is there a way to stop this showing as 100mbps and get it to show 2.2mbps ???

I no its trivial but its anoying me alot !!!

please can someone help me solve my little problem ??

    Thanx
    Tom Howdle !

Nope because the connection between the computer and router is at that speed. Not possible.

well, if its not posible to do this through wndows , is there a seperate program that can show the internet conection speed to be 2.2mps >?>?

    Thnx Tom Howdle ~!

    Tomsky,

Colemanguy is correct. Windows is simply displaying the connection speed that that network layer is providing. If just that Windows doesn't really care what speed is out on the internet from your ISP except when downloading info and for applications. You can't change the physical display of bandwidth. However, if you want to see how fast your connection is from the modem to ISP (internet), then simply go to a "speedtest" site and it'll certainly tell you how fast your bandwidth is beyong the router.

Ditto comments above - just the negotiated NIC speed.

As I know Tom I know his problem.

    He has not said :

Before he had a livebox, (provided by wanadoo). With this livebox it was possible to connect to the livebox via LAN (100mbps) and get that connection.
Also a second connection would come up saying 'You are now connected to the internet at 2.2mbps'. As this is done witha livebox which is basically a wireless router then why cant it be done with a standard router.

Colemanguy it is orite saying that it is not possible as it is possible as this has happened with the livebox:) :D

yess marky parky pudding and pie you are now rong , because i have a seperate modem and router now and before they were combined (livebox). Now i have scrapped the livebox the modem and router are now conected together by LAN which is 100mps this is why the internet conection shows 100mps and not 2.2mbps !! :)

I have yet to see a program show this info too( at least with Windows ). I think ColemanGuy is correct, need your speed, get a speed test. Even if you are rated at 2.2mbps you probably wont even get that! ISP's usually claim that speed, but usually dont put out at that. I have 10, but only get about 8 to 8.5
Anyhoo. Here is a Link to a decent speed test http://www.dslreports.com/stest from here you can play around too.
Also, its only 100 mega bits, not 100 mega bytes.....BIG Difference between bits and bytes.

Dont talk BS ur the one moaning if anyone around here had any sense you wouldnt open a speed tester on the net you would just open the router config where it tells you your speed anyway:eek:

yerr thanks for that , i uses that site for speed tests a few times, its just that this information was anoying me as it was not displaying it when i setup up my new network !

Looks like silucidity said it best...

What your machine's n/w adapter card is capable of, and what the server speed is (and the speed of the other telecom's speed, with whom YOUR server communicates), are never the same.

There's a big write up on wireless speed factors in PCWORLD mag, can't remember the issue, but will dig it up and link it if anyone wants...

You wanna' know your connect speed, bring up the task manager/networking tab.
