Why is the file text blue?

    I notice that there's a lot of files on my computer that now have blue text, rather than the standard black. Not sure why this is... maybe because of AVG Anti-Virus Free? I only began noticing it now, and really wondering why it might be.

    Is it something going on with the computer? Just worried it might be something bad.

    Hi

    Just going to re-post my original answer in that the text Blue on file names denotes the file is Compressed (have you used file compression) if the text is green its an encripted file using EFS (Encrypting File System), Black as you know is normal.

    Its not a major issue having compressed files, jsut wondering if at some point and checkout link earlier in my post if you have done any Cleanup of the PC files and may have clicked Compress Files to save HDD space or gain some more back if the drive was nearly full?

    Ah, so is that why? If so, then I guess that really answers my question. I was just concerned that it may be something else. I just hadn't noticed, since I'm not exactly the most computer-savvy person.

    Anyways, again, thanks. Sorry to have bothered you or anything by asking this again here, just wanted to be sure that it wasn't anything harmful or the like.

    On a curious note, how old does a file have to be for it to warrant compression?

    Hi

    Yes, its no major issue, but you can IIRC turn off the colour by clicking in any folder Tools > Folder Options > View tab and then untick "Show encrypted or compressed files in color" and click OK

    No worries not bothering anyone, if you didnt know then its a valid question, as for the file date to warrant compression then to be honest I dont know off hand without looking it up but do vaguely remember it was 50 days, but would need to double check this to be 100%.
