I bought a case with a stock 400w psu. I can get a brand new 500w raidmax for cheap. Why should I get it? I'm not looking for a long answer, so don't bother yourself. I just want to know the advantages of upgrading (besides the extra connectors, 6 pin etc.). I mean in general. Thanks guys.

EDIT: my stock one is a x-power 400watt model ps-400w

400 watt power supply can support X number of hard drives, video cards, etc etc - 500w can support a larger number. If you're not planning on building a computer with a large number of components in it, the 400w should be fine.

If you plan to put in a powerful GPU the 6 pin will be needed.

Plus it is always better to have too much power than too little.

I got it. Thanks. Yeah, the extra connectors will come in handy one day. Plus the sata connectors were broken/rigged on the 400watt. I can just craigslist the 400 and pretty much get the 500 for next to nothing.

A larger name brand PSU won't explode destroy your computer and burn your house down and your computer will be more stable.

You may have Five hundred or Three thousand bucks of equipment all depending on a PSU that costs twenty bucks,it really isn't worth it,its akin to getting a really expensive car and getting all your fuel and fluids from containers at the back of your garage.

The long answer depends on what system you have.

Well, at least the RaidMax is in the middle of the road, PSU's that come with cases are usually crap and if they're good then you'll pay for the case.

No offense, but when I see cheap, and PSU in the same sentence, I cringe.
