    Hello,

Just do a search with Google about
files, clusters and you'll understand, for certain.

On most modern PC's, files are split into multiples of 8kb. As you cannot have 2 files in the same 8kb cluster, any unused space in a cluster cannot be used for anything else.

So 54kb divided by 8, uses 7, to the next multiple of, 8kb clusters
    8 * 7 = 56, file size = 54, so 2kb cannot be used.

228kb is not divisable equally by 8, so 232kb is used.
29 * 8 =232 so 4 kb cannot be used for anything else.

Another good reason to frequently clean trash from your computer, and defrag often to regain maximum free space.

PS: As suggested earlier, try a google search on "cluster size" for lots of informative links. Bazza
