Why won't Vista play CD's?

I wasn't sure where to post this, considering I don't know what the Issue is. (yet)

I've had to go back to Vista Package 1 because my computer fell over and it rattled the hard drive. So I used my brothers hard drive, and had to buy Vista again.. But anyway, sense I re-installed Vista Package 1 (I had package 2 before), and I never had this issue before. I can't play any CD's. When I open the CD almost all of the Audio tracks are only 44 Bytes a piece, only like three songs will play.. DVDs work fine. I've never had an issue with DVDs. So what's the big deal? And how can I fix this?

And while I'm at it, I recently Bought Fear 2, and I ran the install, and it had to install Steam first. But when I had to run Steam, it said it was missing steam.dll, or something. What's with that? :cry

Well, first of all Vista is certainly not your issue, love it or hate it. Can you open your CD's using explorer? Sounds like something got misaligned after your little tumble.

 

I can explore them, but they're all still 44 Bytes each.

 

Hmm, I seem to remember bad burns having those stats. Have you tried to play a commercial disk yet?

EDIT: Your CD laser is probably out of alignment. Get a new one, cheap enough.

 

I've tried playing a commercial disk. Same issue. And how much does a new CD laser cost? I lost my job.:-o
