Why's there a "RW" listed on a DVD+R disk?

Just wondering what the little "rw" icon stands for on DVD+R disks. This does not mean the disk is ReWritable, does it?

This may stand for read write meaning it can read or written to not necessarily rewritable that usually follows the dvd+r logo ie dvd+rw.

there are 2 kind of RW base on DVDRW : DVD+RW or DVD-RW if your DVDRW support for both is OK. If it is for + only you will write DVD+ not support for - :D

    This is what I mean...

    This is not a DVD+RW, just a DVD+R.

On the package that they came in does it tell you they are rewritable in most cases it does that does not mean they are rewritable whats on the picture i mean.

Rewriteable is not on the package what-so-ever. Thus, I'm trying to fig. out what the "rw" means. The "rw" icon is also on the package.

I think you may be right. The "rw" must stand for read-write. This little icon seems to be on most DVD+R disks I've seen.

I seem to remember that from a class once when someone else asked that and the answer was read write it seems to be the only logical explanation

I don't know what that 'RW' icon would represent, you would have to ask the makers of the DVD. A DVD+R can only record data once and then the data becomes permanent on the disc. The disc can not be recorded onto a second time.

All DVD+R should have this RW.

    There is an explaination there:

Heres the answer that you can find on the long page.

Base on the picture it is DVDRW (rewrite) +R disk. could you test with the softs including DVDRW drive. or Nero v6.3

Then is would say DVD+RW on the disc not DVD+R; they are two different formats. A +R is a write-once vs re-write format.

Both DVD+R and DVD+RW have this RW logo. Any DVD with + on it. This doesnt mean a DVD+R like in the pictures on this thread with RW logo are ReWritable. RW replaces the DVD-ROM logo that is on DVD minus.
