Hey all, i've got a funny problem that i can't figure out whats going on! At random intervals both my browsers FF and IE can not connect to the internet!

Things i've tried so far are reinstalling browers, making sure i am spyware virus free, tried checking that its just not a general internet connectivity issue by using my laptop-connects fine with laptop. I then run a ping command to google.com and i get an instance response back with google pinging back. I then try to reach google using 66.102.9.99 in the browser and a times the page will load and at others it won't load. I've tried flushing dns with no difference. Something else wierd is when i try to connect to my router i type 192.168.1.1 and here i notice that even trying to connect to my router takes the piss when it should be instant!

The solution that does work when this problem begins is that i unplug the router and modem for 30secs, reconnect and presto all working again.

Any ideas what may be wrong?

Make sure that you network card driver is up to date and that you have all the windows updates installed.

I would reconfigure your modem and router like you did in the beginning. How long have you had your router/modem installed? what type of service dhcp? If this is a new config maybe you just didn't set something right in the router or modem. I would do a disk clean useing something like ccleaner or similiar. Before you do that you could try dumping your history, cookies, and cache and setting your security settings to default and then see if either one will connect. Another additional idea would be to see if you can connect useing only the modem by itself. If that works then you can try to reconnect again with router added to the modem. Sorry i'm throwing so many ideas at you at once. Question: how long have you been connected to the internet successfully?? I'm wondering if your modem and router are setup correctly. I'm sitting here trying to quess from your "post". Maybe give me a little more info.

My parents' computer seems to have had the exact same problem for the past two weeks. I got to look at it today, and what seemed to fix it was uninstalling the ZoneAlarm firewall software. The program wasn't starting up properly for me, for whatever reason, so after uninstalling it, I've been able to use the net without any problems. (I was about to post here before I did that uninstall too!)

    Hope this helps.
