wife laptop is screwed

    my wife has a HP pavilion DV2000 s/n 2CE7120WK1 what happens is it keeps freezing up for like 10seconds-3minutes(sometimes less) but then it catches up and starts going again for about 3 minutes and finally we brought it to be repaired there they reintsalled the recovery partition on the laptop after i told them i tried to format it and they did a recovery and ran some diagnostics on it we paid about 60 bucks and got it back 2 days later and it seemed fine until it started to freeze again and froze for about 15-20 minutes and i pressed the shutdown button and restarted it and it did nothing the lights went on but the screen stayed black so i turned it off for 30 minutes and tried it again after the 30 minutes and it started to turn on asked me if i want to to run it in safe mode or normal mode and i said run in normal mode but when it started to load it froze again for 20 minutes so i just turned it off and came here to write about it. PLEASE HELP!!!! (sorry about the spelling and one big run on sentance)

    If you have a clean install, then it sounds like hardware failure, sadly in a laptop you might need whatever is failing to fail to know it. My first instinct with the pausing was a failing hard drive. The company that repaired it SHOULD have stress tested it a bit before sending it back with you, maybe running a benchmark program for a while to see if it would fail. Instead, they got lazy, assumed you had malware and took the shortcut. I would expect them to repair it correctly this time with the money you spent going towards the next repair since they wasted their time.

    I went back and they told me they did everything they could already and if its not sarting up at all it must be the MB.

    If it's not your Motherboard, it could be your power suppply.
    Try both.

    did you ask them what they did (detailed)? did you ask them if they ran stress tests (as mentioned here - ie, h/d, p/s, ram, etc)?
