Had broadband a couple of days ago, connected line via a 3com wired/wireless router. I can acces broadband via the two wired desktop pc's but the laptop does not connect to recieve broadband via the 3com pcmcia card. normal networking is all ok.
I've been going through many forums and trying different solution from problems with other users but having been bashing the laptop because nothing so far works,

please anybody, help would be gratefull

hi kodo, yes I have wpa-psk enabled on the laptop and the router. I can access files and use programs over the network from any computer to latop vice-versa, so the connections OK.

I use to use a dial-up internet connection on the laptop and the other pc's.
so as you know i had to dialup and logon to access net.
when i had broadband installed and configured myself. after the modem router was configured the i just ran internet explorer on the pc's and I suppose it detected the internet via the network card and hey-presto.

    But the laptop is different.

When i ran explorer, it came up the old dial-up box evrytime. I then disabled that under IE, under Tools> Internet options>Connections tab> never dial a connections tab selection.

But it still did not work and just just displayed the 'page cannot be displayed' info.

    what can i do

    Hey Dave,

I've had a similar problem with a Dell computer recently... Wouldn't work in wireless mode but worked fine when the plug was in. It kept rejecting the PCMCIA card as well.

The solution to my problem was to re-install the WiFi card. For that I didn't actually physically take it out, but I had to uninstall the drivers, disactivate the the card and then pass through the 'add hardware' option in XP. It's a rather complicated manoeuvre and I'm not enough of a 'geek' to be able to spill it out by heart, but my advice is that you phone your manufacturer and explain the problem and suggest this as a solution, and they should be qualified enough to show you the way. Or maybe somebody else on this forum could fill in the gaps?

    Sorry I couldn't help more.
