WiFi card disconnects whilst gaming.....

I'm currently using the Dell Studio 1909 desktop on Vista 64 with a Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN mini-card.

The internet is hunky dory except when I'm gaming on either WoW or OnLive when I get random disconnects. The only way to re-connect is either restarting the PC or disabling/enabling the WiFi card.

I have tried the usual troubleshoots ie: changed channels. re-installed drivers/firmware, thrown the microwave out (I'm starving) unchecked the powersave functions etc etc, but I'm at a loss.....

I have seen forums where others using this wifi card have similar issues, but none have been answered..

Can anyone help?

First, you'll need to determine where the problem lies: the WiFi card, your wireless router, the modem or your ISP.

First step: When you have a disconnect, click on the network connection icon at at the bottom right (near the date/time) and run the network troubleshooter. If the troubleshooter fixes the issue by resetting the WiFi card and the problem keeps repeating, go to CONTROL PANEL > SYSTEM > DEVICE MANAGER, click on the WiFi card and choose UPDATE DRIVER. If there is a driver update it may solve the problem. If not (or if an updated driver doesn't solve the issue), it may be a hardware (WiFi card) problem.

If you have a second PC w/ WiFi on it, connect it at the same time. If both drop the signal at once, it indicates a router, modem or ISP issue.

If you have access to an external WiFi USB stick, try connecting it to your PC - if it holds the signal, the issue is likely w/ your built-in WiFi card.
