    Hi Guys,

Wow! I can't believe it's been 3 yrs since I've needed any help from this forum.

I tried to search for threads related to my problem and I did come across something that looked similar, but I'm not sure if it was related, and I tried some of the solutions from that thread; the ones I could understand anyway.

My issue is that my wifi connection icon is showing a yellow dot on grey bars where before it wasn't there and the bars were all white. When I click on it, it shows me that I am connected to our home wifi. The troubleshooter is telling me that it can not identify the problem, but other times it said that a network cable is unplugged. I put in a brand new ethernet cable and the issue is persisting.

I am using a Toshiba Qosmio on Windows 7

P.S. I put the link to all of my screenshots, but I don't see it in the preview. I hope it shows up in the actual post

Looks to me like your laptop changed from a cable connection to WiFi.
Verify the cable has connectivity and turn off your WiFi antenna. That should force the cable connection when you reboot.
If you get lost or need more help open a command prompt and type "ipconfig" without the quotes. Post what you see here or at least have a good look at what is happening on each adapter.

Okay I'm sorry I forgot to say that I don't have a cable connected to my laptop. It's connected to the desktop and my laptop connects wirelessly to the router network. Is it possible that the desktop has changed from cable to wifi?

    These two statements
Make it seem like you put a new cable into the laptop.

Why mention the ethernet cable if the laptop never uses one?

Also with my "senior eyes", there is no way I'm able to see the 4 shots on one image.
Please repost the two left images by themselves (1 per shot) and give the 2 links to the new images.

Yes I'm sorry for the miscommunication. The ethernet is plugged into the desk top, and I only mentioned it because one of the messages I got from the troubleshooter said that an ethernet cable was unplugged. I first tried making sure it was plugged in correctly and then put in a new one.

I will reorganise the photos and post them singularly

    Thank you

Since the move and the new forum software, my reply and screenshots are gone.
The 2nd image shows that your computer is not connected to anything - strange. usually you see a line with a red X over it.
Perhaps it is trying to use an ethernet connection that is not possible because you don't have an RJ45 port.

The 3rd image, I'd like you to click on See Full map.
If the wireless is connected it should look like this

Notice how the wireless line is not solid.

Here is the ipconfig from Lester's computer. I might also note that when I logged into the forum just now,
the interface is totally different and a couple of the posts are missing.

That's my my first remark was
Why are you posting info about Lester's computer? This is a desktop and doesn't have the problem.
Looking at your first screenshot, Kimberly's laptop, the Toshiba is the one with the problem.
That is the one we need information about.

Several posts went missing yesterday plodr. I had asked the OP for that info to check that both computers were similarly configured as Lester's is working and hers is not, or so I believe. The answer is yes, they are. Same gateway and subnet.

Do I need to repost the images I sent the other day?

Not for me but can you just confirm that you are not able to connect to the internet? You haven't ever said that, just that your connection icon had gone grey and had a yellow dot.

Oh I'm sorry. I thought I had in my first post. Yes, I can connect to the internet. However, ever since this started happening, I have been having problems with my chromecast connection. It used to appear in the list of available networks, but now it doesn't. Whenever I try to use it, the connection is intermittent.

I'm glad we've clarified that as up to now I for one have been assuming a problem with your internet. I'm not familiar with Chromecast but problems with wireless connections within the home are usually due to weak signal because of unsuitable location of equipment, interference from other wireless networks using the same channel, interference from other electrical devices such as microwaves or phones and so on. If you have a techie relative or friend get them to take a look at it, otherwise you might need to call in a local specialist.

The router is upstairs in the office, and I use my laptop downstairs in the livingroom. It's had the same setup for the last 4 yrs with no issue; nothing has changed. I'll see if I can't find someone to take a look at it though.

Thank you all so much for your help

Sorry, Earthling and Cynergy Diva. I missed the post where you asked for that info.

I also assumed your laptop was unable to connect to the internet. If the signal drops out, it could be because after 4 years, the internal wireless is "wearing out". You could buy a wireless USB dongle and use that instead of the internal chip to connect to the internet.

    I know nothing about chromecast.

Thanks Plodr. The chromecast is used to stream media from my laptop to the t.v. Youtube videos, netflix etc.

I know what chromecast does; I have no experience using one.
I was looking at chromcast and miracast for my Android table to stream to a tv but haven't purchased either yet.

I get Netflix by mail not streaming and since I watch very little YouTube and Hulu, it would be a waste of money for me at this point in time.
