Ok, so I am not an expert. I am fairly new to wifi and such. I have a wireless access card I have been using at the office. I set it up and it works great. Now....
Can I find other access points with the software it came with? For example...a hot spot at starbucks etc.? Or do I have to have their software. Maybe there is some way I can find a scanner that will at least find one for me? dunno..a little advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Oh,and also watch for ...

There's a GOOD edition of PC Upgrade (magazine) that still may be on the shelves. It's called "Wi-Fi ..." something about learning all there is about it. Bookstores usually have it. If you can't find it, let me know--email me: keith_starkey@hotmail.com--giving me your address, and I'll send it to you (I've finished reading it, and it's very informative).

    Thanks,

    Starkman

Here's the scanning software you need: Network Stumbler

it lists the SSID, MAC, Channel, Vendor (of the ap), Type (AP, Peer, IBSS, ABSS), encryption, first seen, last seen, Flag, and Beacon. It also tells some other advanced info that I can't figure out.

Yeah..for some unexplicable reason that seems to work...but since there is only one wirless net work near (at work) it finds it juuuust fine. Will have to poke around town and see what I can find. Thanks for the tip!
