Wifi login puzzle

We've been swapping out computers on our LAN but have run into an issue with one computer with which the wireless key is being continually rejected by the router when it is without any doubt at all correct. The workaround atm is to use Ethernet, but in the interest of reducing the rat's nest of cables to a minimum we need to resolve this. I'm well used to setting up local networks but this one has me banging my head in frustration. All of the computers are using either Win 7 or Win 8.1.

 

It has to be a hardware or driver incompatibility with the router. I have this problem with my mother's server. The solution for us was ethernet because no other driver versions would work. Another solution is to pick up another wifi card or dongle. This was Server Essentials 2012

 

Interesting. This particular machine was my primary system for many years and has now been set up for my wife after I finally went for a new SSD + HDD based system. Shortly before it was replaced I was experimenting with driver updating systems such as DiverMax and soon concluded they were not a great idea. I'm now thinking that a driver rollback might just fix this. I'll let you know.

You were absolutely right about the cause Adrynalyne - it was the wireless adapter driver, but I can't blame DriverMax this time as no rollback driver was available. But rather than go out hunting I just asked Device Manager to update the driver, which it did and that has fixed it. I guess it must have got it from Windows Update.
