Not sue if this is in the right area of forum but hereit goes.
I'm trying to connect with Wifi to our home network and it says connected but I cant access any internet. Weird thing is that i can connect with wifi through my hotspot on my phone and everything works fine and also works fine with the ethernet cable connected direct. This is a older Acer Aspire One running Windows XP.

    Thanks

I, too, have had this issue, quite often.

Try disconnecting and reconnecting, or resetting your router (eg power off - power on). Or wait for internet access to resume (up to 1hr)...this often works for me.

It may also be caused by a temporary (in my case) loss of connection to your ISP, or from you ISP to 'the internet' or maybe (I speculate) by your ISP server or local hardware being overloaded.

I have also wondered how it is that I can have an excellent signal, but no connection or no internet. I think that this may because my receiver is detecting the carrier but it has no data on it for some reason. As well as my house, this happens even more frequently at my father's (older laptop) , which is most annoying when in the middle of a downloads longer than a few minutes.

Just my speculative tuppennyworth, I stand to be corrected by someone more knowledgeable.

Agree with suggestion above - close every connected device down, reboot router and boot them all up again.

Another thought, I've seen this work, is to delete the connection, restart the computer and rebuild the connection.

Also, before that step you may try flushing DNS, from a command prompt:
    Code:
    ipconfig /flushdns

    If you see

    when attempting the flush, then:

Left click Start, drag mouse up to Run, select Run and type services.msc

    Double click DNS Client
Set the startup type to Automatic and service status to Started
    Re-run ipconfig /flushdns

    Hi

Totally agree with all of the above and try all of those first but if you get no joy then it maybe some 3rd party software installed that's causing this so boot into Safe Mode (F8 at boot and choose Safe Mode with Networking) and then see if you can connect.

I mostly use public wifi and this happens to me a lot while the person beside me is happily surfing away :cry
The above suggestions are all very good but since you, like me, have XP then we have a wonderful feature that Microsoft decided to remove from their later OS. It's quick and easy so you can try this first, sometimes it fixes it for me but then sometimes not, so then I try some/all of the above

Right click on the wifi icon in the SystemTray and cliick on Repair
    This will automatically:
    - Disable wifi
    - Enable wifi
    - Flush DNS Cache
    - Renew IP address

Its still here but in a different guise as right click a network icon and choose Troubleshoot Problems, can also be fund as the Diagnose button on any Network adapters General Status window.
