WIFO usb dongle keeps disconnecting

    I have a laptop with winxp home on,with a usb wifi dongle.I can get online via Thompson ST585 router but within 5 mins it disconnects.The icon on taskbar still says Im connected but I get page errors on the browser,so I have to right click on the icon and select repair.That sorts it for a while,but then same thing happens again!I use several other laptops with wifi through this router and none have this problem.The only difference I can see in router settings is the other laptops all use a static ip,and this one says " use the same ip address".
    Could this be faulty dongle? drivers? Or is there a setting i need to change? Any ideas?

    Actually Ive discovered now that the laptop stays connected to internet as long as I dont open a browser.If I open IE or FF,within 5 mins I get disconnected again..
