With a renewed interest in using this old (or is it .. antique?..) Toshiba Satellite M55-S1001 laptop running XP, for a simple application.. I recently replaced the busted display screen, (might) have repaired the battery with new cells (and it is charging), scrapped off the dust, and jump started the mother board. But it has not been used for some time, probably due to issues.. and it is very slow.

I get two notices on boot, that CeEKey.exe and SVPWUTIL.exe failed to start, due to EBLib.dll not found. Do I run the scans as is, or fix the lib problem first? Admin privileges do work, when logged in on that User account.

As always, the help here is greatly appreciated, Jerry

You need to be up and running properly before you can check for malware. I moved your thread.

Thanks Tim! Always willing to move forward as best I can, solo.. I found eblib.dll and pasted the file into both specific Programs folders for the two executables, and it boots up, and I can log in, without warnings. I still have Malwarebytes Premium on it, so will try to figure out how to load their updates, without putting this on line. It does have some AV on it, but I have no idea if any of that is worthy.. against the evils, and weevils of the internet.

Do you have another computer to download any anti-virus programs to? Then move via thumb drive perhaps?

Should I run the scans and report back?

Sorry I didn't see post #4. Yes, I'm running (w/o any problems) on a Win 7 Dell.. to do any downloads/transfers, etc. And the laptop does have AV loaded.. AVG as I recall, and I'd sent a note off to MWB about adding it back onto my account. Premium is running on it, but the signature libraries (and potentially the program) needs to be updated. But I don't want to get into juggling new/old versions, for the XP. I really doubt this one will see much (if any..) active on-line duty. I have some light data acquisition to run, with a PIO board, and some external hardware. I do want to clean off as many of the old programs as possible.. and there are way too many of those on it right now. It might take me some time to sort out what I can delete... but I felt it best to do all the scans first, as it was "parked" in a unknown condition several years back. It appears to be running OK, but really slow. TY JR

If you wish to run the scans, that would be fine. Let me know.
