Will PC3200 RAM work in this old computer?

Hey everyone,

I feel sorta dumb even asking, but based on the conflicting information I receive from Dell vs. other places, I'm turning to my trusty majorgeeks forum. HELP!

Based on the attached specs for my MOBO and currently-installed RAM, if I buy a couple of sticks of PC3200 184-pin RAM, will it work?!?!?!

 

Yes. In a worst case scenario, it will simply clock down and act as a pair of PC2700 sticks.

I upgraded my dad's 2400 last year, it is confusing because Dell's website is outdated and the manual says your comp has a 1gb limit. But it can actually hold 2gb. I don't know if there was a BIOS upgrade or why their info would be wrong. Use crucial's tool in thesmokingun's post, if it says you can use 2gb your fine.

I bought a 1gb stick of DDR 400 (PC3200) and kept the 256mb stick so his comp has 1.25gb but the new stick is clocked down to PC2700. It's fine because he doesn't do much besides internet.

Just a heads up Circuit City usually runs a monthly special on DDR 1gb sticks at about half off[The only big box store I know of that still does for DDR]. Newegg always has good prices.
