Will The Geeks Please Help ..... Networking And Filesharing Settings Etc.

Ok so here is where we stand now;

Windows by default has networking shut off now.
"It's more secure"

We go through the effort of manually setting network discovery, file sharing and everyone's favourite; media streaming.
What I have been shown is every time windows updates it resets their defautlt settings and deletes mine.
And I have to invest 2 or 3 hours manually turning everything back on.
And the bonus plan is when media streaming wont turn on.
Microsofts fix is to delete windows media player and reinstall.
That's not a fix... it's an admission of guilt.

A couple of weeks back an update came down the pipe that was so badly written they had to invent a troubleshooter for it. The troubleshooter's answer was "windows firewall was not set as your default firewall"
*ahem* yeah
The fix for that update was to reset windows or go back to a restore point.
But hey, there's a charge for the reset.
Screw resetting, I just reinstalled win 10
Just another admission of guilt.

My problem is that each time permissions, firewall and security, network discovery, sharing settings etc... are "repaired" I find they were simply reset to windows default.... meaning shut off.

I dont want any of my networking settings "reset" or "repaired"
(which a hundred apps offer to do)
I have 4 computers in a private home network;

I'd like to find something that turns it all ON, not resets to off.
I have to go through this every time windows updates.

Please gimmie something that turns ON everything.
Drop the firewalls, drop the windows security blocking
share everything with everyone full control

Theres over 130 check boxes just in allowing apps through the firewall
I never bothered counting how many "inbound rules" there are, but each one takes 3 clicks, sometimes 7, just to turn on.
Configure eveything to "yes" for direct access.

I could go on but too much typing...
But even after all of this, and a zillion trips to settings guess what ya gotta do...
go back to your networki settings and right click on ethernet.
There is only a 'general' tab so click on 'properties'
Remember we just spent a few hours resetting networking, sharing, firewall and security
go back and take a l0ok after we shared and allowed everything we could think of...
even loading partition manaqger as admin and setting sharing for the drives there...
And keep in mind windows restarted over and over, appying all the changes.
You run the troubleshooters and they cant find the problem....

right click on ethernet and select properties
click on the sharing tab.

No app or update or troubleshooter thought to find it and turn it on after windows update shut it off?

Write me something that turns ON all this stuff and keeps it on by default after windows updates.

Now I'm gonna make the same offer to tweaking dotcom and see what they can do.

What OS? Pro or Home?

You say drop the firewall then your next line is describing setting rules on the firewall?

 

I have Win 10 pro on all my comps.
And please remember I was getting tired of typing.
Read it again separating the phrases into new sentneces:
Turn on ALL networking-network discovery settings: streaming/sharing/permissions/direct access etc
Get all 4 comps to show up when I click on Network in the navigation pane of file explorer on any comp in my homegroup.

I use the same login for all 4 comps and they are all connected by wire to the router.
How hard can it be?

Stop windows firewall from blocking my other comps from access
Stop windows security from blocking my other comps from networking
Stop windows update from overwriting my settings and shutting everything off.

I can probably do it all in Group Policy, but I'm hoping to find something that does this with one click... kinda thing

There are no charges for resetting your system. Sounds like your system/network has a rogue on board.

Best I can find out it was a nasty piece of spyware hiding inside skype

When I deleted some old nvidia stuff and skype it came to the surface splashing "MEET NOW" from the action center.

But it doesn't show up as an app anywhere.

 

Once you get it set up the way you want, make a restore point, set Windows Update to manual so you can make a restore point before updating.
Or get a macro program and record yourself making those changes, then you just have to run that macro on the various systems. (AutoHotKey / Pulover's Macro Creator)
Or Google how to make those changes from command line, you'll find that there are options like net start, or other options you can use in a batch file.

Here is a little "How-To" I made on capturing registry changes, so you can save them for later.
If you don't see the process, you need RegFromApp running as Admin or you need the x64 version for x64 OS. If RegFromApp doesn't capture anything, then likely that is not in the regisrty, maybe look for a service.
