Will this get me on lots of lists?

I'm looking for a credit card. I do a Google search and find lots of entries. If I click on one, will it put me on somebody's list for mailings, or spyware? Will clicking more than one to get comparisons get me on lots of lists? If "Yes" is the answer, do you know of a way to shop for credit cards without getting on lists? Is this the forum for this post? Thanks.

Tough to decide what forum for that, but this should do... Really, there is a simple rule of thumb. Do not give your personal information unless the company is one you trust, secure and I would look for a privacy policy as well. Those three should cover you, but I am leary, even as much spending as I do online, to give out my social security number. Tread carefully, but I would not recommend it. A local credit counseling company can help you re-establish credit and a good credit union can often be more helpful getting established or re-established.

    Good luck!

I agree with the Major. Don't do it online. Find a local bank, credit union or something like that.

I echo the post of MA as I would only give out any personal details to the Card Lenders website and NOT to any 3rd party company saying they are acting for the company...... and then only when the page is encrypted @ 128bit ( signified by the yellow lock next to the internet globe on the IE taskbar )

Having said that is this your first card?

I would also check for any of the companys that have a introductory rate eg. low APR % on purchaces, also check on payment protection, Intrest free period ( some are 31days some are 56 days )

A few links to lists of Card Lenders as I dont know what country you are in I have links for the US & UK

    US

    UK

Once you have found the card you like the look of either ring the CARD company direct or apply on-line ( at their website ONLY ) if you feel comfotable doing that or if they have a branch near you pop in and do it.

Citibank have been good for me as I have been with them for 7 years.

I just came back to ask if anyone could offer more to my post, and sure enough they did. My response was based on general knowledge and off the top of my head. Thanks for the added info and anymore to come.

Thanks for the replies. I see that I did not state my question correctly. When I do a Google search for credit card comparisons, I get a page with lots of entries, such as: "Compare Best Credit Card Deals" www.Credit-Land.com and "10 Leading Credit Cards" www.LowCards.com. If I go to one of these sites, will it mysteriously trigger a bunch of spam and spyware into my computer without me knowing how in the world it happened? Thanks.

It should'nt do Frybo unless you start entering your email or home address.

Just use them for recearch and when you found the one you like ONLY apply @ the banks website, phone or branch and you'll be good to go.

In this age of on-line shopping it would also be good to check on the Card companys policy on refunds if the company involved is playing silly bugger on your refunding your money... as the cards I have DO give you protection for those instances (the card lender will retreive the money for you )

Plus on reading the book Citibank sent me I notice they have a policy where as if you find a product cheaper within 60 days they will refund the difference :)
