Everest give me these specs on my motherboard:

    Motherboard:
    CPU Type Intel Celeron-A, 533 MHz (8 x 67)
    Motherboard Name Unknown
    Motherboard Chipset Intel Whitney i810
System Memory 64 MB (PC100 SDRAM)
    BIOS Type Phoenix (01/27/00)
    Communication Port Communications Port (COM1)
    Communication Port Printer Port (LPT1)

    CPU Properties:
    CPU Type Intel Celeron-A
    CPU Alias Mendocino
    CPU Stepping B0
    CPUID Revision 00000665h

    CPU Speed:
CPU Clock 531.63 MHz (original: 533 MHz)
    CPU Multiplier 8.0x
CPU FSB 66.45 MHz (original: 66 MHz)

    CPU Cache:
    L1 Code Cache 16 KB
    L1 Data Cache 16 KB
    L2 Cache 128 KB (On-Die, Full-Speed)

    Motherboard Properties:
    Motherboard ID 31511.STD.0000.D.0001271457
    Motherboard Name Unknown

    Chipset Properties:
    Motherboard Chipset Intel Whitney i810
    Memory Timings 3-3-3-5 (CL-RCD-RP-RAS)

I was thinking of getting a better processor and putting 256 memory. The computer is now running only 64MB on a 533 Celeron, with Windows 98. I found these two processors, and was leaning toward the 44.00 one, since I don't see much difference between the two, and the price is about half. The 44.00 one also got a rating of 5. The other one got a 4.

    Thoughts anyone?

u could use a little more money and make ur upgrade count. I am not to sure about the mobo compatibility though.

I was also wondering if PC133 would work, since I can't seem to find any PC100 at Newegg.

    eric,

not sure about the processors. with the pc133 ram, it should (99.9%) work, but will clock down to pc100 speeds.

I'm guessing this is onboard video, so maybe a cheap video card may boost it some?

    Display:
Video Adapter Intel(R) 810 Chipset Graphics Driver PV 2.1
    3D Accelerator Intel i752

This computer is one someone gave me, and I just want to boost the performance so it can surf the net and have 2 or 3 windows open at once and not freeze up. I know the RAM will help immensely, but for just a few bucks, it seems like it could improve quite a bit with a better processor, and possibly the video card.

Once this is souped up some, I'll probably give it to someone, so it's not like it has to be top notch. No games or anything, just email, some photo editing, and internet surfing.

Does it automatically clock down, or do I have to do that myself?

Also, I'm pretty sure the Socket 370 processors are the same as the Celeron, just wondering about the compatibility, etc.

that intel adapter is integrated, and will pull whatever amount of ram from system. having a dedicated video card would keep that from happening.

the ram will automatically clock down.

im tending to doubt that either of those CPUs are compatible w/ your mobo because while they all do use 370 there are more than a few revisions of the 370 (the tualatin being the most recent and best) ... i used to have a link to a site that had all the versions of the 370 but i can't seem to find it .. i hope the following links can shed some light or try googling for a while

the problem im seeing is that the second CPU wants a FSB of 133Mhz while your chipset(so far as I can tell) only supports up to a 100MHz FSB (it all depends on how old the mobo is) .. and i highly doubt the first CPU there would be compatible as it uses .13 micron manufacturing process(not exactly sure what that meansbut the lower the better as i understand it) ... but I would look for a 370 socket .18 micron and 100MHz FSB CPU and that will most likely be compatible ... while a i810 only goes up to a 100MHz FSB the i810E goes up to 133 and everest might be wrong or just didn't pick up on it

you might go here: http://www.cpuid.com/pcw and dl PC Wizard to see if it gives you more info

but im thinking if those are the only two the second one is far more likely to be compatible

it would be alot easier if you knew the name of the motherboards manufacturer ... it would probably say on the motherboard itself ... unless it is a store bought compaq or the like

    i would get this:
    http://processorfinder.intel.com/sc...ocFam=25&PkgType=ALL&SysBusSpd=ALL&CorSpd=ALL

but i would have no idea where to find it ... or just take a chance on the coppermine

here's the manuel for the 370 u want:
