OK I heard this method of building your own rocket and want to try it!

If I get one of those bottles that go on water coolers that you get in offices (you know the ones i mean!) and fill it half with water, add some fins to the side and then place a pump on the bottom and start pumping, will the compressed air send it shooting into the sky? I tried drawing it on paint if the instructions weren't clear!

I think you'll make a lot of bubbles.

If you really want to make a rocket, you're gonna need PROPANE ;)

The bottle will probably explode before you get lift off, expecially with water in it. Forget about nagivation. And the large mouth of the bottle will not allow any meaningfull thrust.

hmmm i just saw a show called brainiac - science abuse (for those in the uk its on sky one occassionally) and it proved right what i thought! they used exactly what i wrote and drew on the first post, but the pump had many extension tubes from the bottle and it flew about 100ft in the air! i'm gonna try it next week! i'll film it and post it on the net if it works!

Go for it! They sold small ones as toys when I was a kid. I had several. Just make sure it won't brain anybody coming back down. Your jug is a lot heavier than the ones we used to use.

    Yeah...
Those things were smaller than a coke can. They probably can't sell them now, because some lawyer would sue the pants off of a company over someone getting hurt.

Yeah, that is just exactly like a real big one of those little rockets we had as a kid.

You're gonna need some serious psu, though. Lay into it w/ the pressure, keep back away from the thing when you let it rip, and hope that the thing doesn't explode!

    :p

Wear safety goggles, just in case!

it'll work, i did this for a project in tech class last year. Fill it up with a ton of air though, and also, fill it up about 3/4 the way with water.

I did some of these with a 2 liter plastic soda jug…….you’ll need a stopper, to hold the air in, a trigger, to release the stopper………a platform to hold every thing upright…….and start with half fill or less………in your drawing, you had flaps,…I know your starting out with something new, but you need fins first, flaps will make it turn or spin……….and have fun…..

I’ve set them off, in a large field, and off of the roof of houseboat at the lake…….it was lots of fun……….wobbles

ok cheers for the info, i think i meant fins when i said flaps, just to make it go straight up!
I'm gonna do this next week when the christmas stress is out the way, and my friends are free too!
