Will this video card work.

I just bought a Dell Inspiron 530S. It has a slim casing and I was wondering if anyone knew if the GeForce 8600GT 512MB would even fit into the casing. Also if anyone knew what type of PCI slots come standard on this model from dell.

Thats a sweet looking machine, but it looks like its been built to run exactly what its got. Even if you could fit it in there, you are going to have to get a much more powerfull power supply. I just picked up the 8800GTS and it is friggin HUGE Im pretty sure the 8800 would never come close to fitting in this one. Id be very surpised if the 8600 would either

I hope that link works. That is the only slimline PCI-Express gpu i can find. That will likely be the only one that will fit your case.

One more thing. How much better will the Geforce be than my current card, an ATI HD 2400 Pro.

 

to find out, do a google search on each. something along the lines of "XXXX (gpu name) review" read a couple-3 of each. Most of the major reviews that pop up will give you first impressions of the card and reviews about how well it plays games, and the best reviews will give you charts/numbers to compare.
