I'm thinking of buying a new Power Supply (PSU) from 350w to something like 450w/500w. My friend has just bought a new 500w PSU and he says that his PC runs a lot smoother and faster.

Will my PC run better if I upgrade my PSU?

If your power supply is underrated for the hardware you have ...then poss. yes ...and if it is under, it will die and poss. harm some of the hardware as it goes south. There are sites that will rate your ps with your system ...off hand..try newegg.

OK well I think I'm gonna buy a 500w PSU from this site I found. Is there anything I should know before installing it which could cause damage to my system?

Nope...install exacly as you uninstalled the old one ....if the old ps had a 20 pin main connection ....and the new is a 24 pin ...break off the last 4 and just use the 20.
