I have a Windows 10 laptop. When I attempt to perform a file backup to an external drive, I get this error in the Event Viewer:

Unusual condition was encountered during scanning user libraries for changes and performing backup of modified files for configuration C:\Users\Rob\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\FileHistory\Configuration\Config

There are two *.edb and two *.jfm files in addition to two config XML files. I tried removing the Config1.xml and Config2.xml files but they are reproduced when I restart the backup.

Does anyone have any idea as to how I might be able to fix this? This is the first attempt at backing up the files.

Windows File History is an automatic system which, after correct configuration by the user, will continuously create copies of user files on a different drive. It is not meant to be used by users for point-in-time backups of selected folders - which is what you appear to have tried to do. Instead you need to install user controlled backup software for this purpose. There is a huge choice of such systems, many of them free, from which I would advocate you try Aomei Backupper. You would obviously need an available drive or partition on which to store your chosen file copies.

You should also check your File History settings as clearly they are not correct at present
