I recently ran a Windows Files Signature Test (C:\Windows\System32\sigverif.exe) and the result was 14 unsigned files. However these 14 files don't show up at all in Files Explorer even when set to show both hidden files and protected operating system files. They also aren't picked up at all using 'Everything' search.

Anyone know what these files are, and whether / how to remove them? Googling points to video graphics but ought to be in Programs folder, not System32? Malware?? (Details: Win 10 21H2 XPS-13 touch-screen laptop)

I searched for Vulkan in Win 11 File Explorer and have all those and more. VirusTotal says they are all Microsoft files and undetected. The few I have looked at were all last modified 11/9/20 (Sep 11). They are present and visible in my Win 10 system too, last modified 31/8/21. Everything finds them too. No idea what they are but appear to be harmless.

EDIT the files are not found in sigverif.exe, so all are signed.

Thanks for looking into this, Earthling! Can you please let me know where your files are located (directory/subdirectory/etc.)? I know sometimes malware "hide" by using the same file names as legit files, but they are suspect when found in different directories. In my case, mine are "so invisible" that I can't even upload any to VirusTotal. The only reason I know of them is because sigverif.exe flagged them as "unsigned".

Thank you again, Earthling. I feel better that my "mysterious invisible" files at least reside in the same directories as yours.

Still can't help but wonder why I can't locate them in Explorer... and yet, picked up by Signature Test as "unsigned"?? Another Windows mystery, sigh...

Hi Eldon, thanks for the additional info! I'm still concerned why I have 13 "Vulkan" files that don't show up at all in Explorer - and then listed by Win Signature Test as "unsigned"?

I know now that Vulcan is legitimate. But I don't know that my particular 13 vulcan files are legitimate - and hope to either find out or elminate them or replace them with signed versions?
