Friday my system was installing updates, while the screen also said "Reboot Now", I clicked reboot not seeing that it was still installing updates. So my system was stuck in a repair loop. I cloned the drive and began working on a fix. The restore point failed, something with Apps. Many sites say to do all the fixboot stuff - that did nothing. Couldn't get the DISM commands to work, seems like they work from a system that can boot into safe mode, I couldn't. Windows repair couldn't remove that updates, round and round for a day. Trying all the fixes from site to site produced different red herrings, I can't tell you how many errors / issues I went through. So the last thing I tried worked, disable repair mode. After that the system booted and told me what the real issue was a Sys file. So I put my original drive back in and copied the SYS file and it booted, so all the other stuff I did nothing to get my system restored.

I hope this info saves someone else a day of frustrations.
