Win 10 Update

Updating my dual boot Win 10/Kubuntu PC went wrong yesterday. It is the big update, not a minor one.

First, after a couple of restarts, it would not boot.

I did the lazy thing, just reinstalled Kubuntu, and everything seemed fine.

Except - when the Win 10 update happened, after one restart, it stops at 91%, and will not go further. I let it run overnight, no change.

When I reboot, it goes back to the former version of Win 1o . and after some time the process updating just repeats.

How to solve this problem?

 

I had the same problem in March this year with getting a major Windows 10 update to complete on a system dual booted with Linux Mint. The only thing that worked in the end was a complete uninstall of Linux. Sadly I can't offer any alternative solution.

 

I had no problems with the update you are talking about, so I may have the same problem - or something else.

However, I have a simple installation of Kubuntu, so that might not be such a big deal to remove and reinstall.

But how do I do the removal, without loosing the ability to boot the PC? I would think that Grub2 has overwritten the boot sector?

(This PC runs on a Win 8 licence, with a free update to win 10. I have a Win 8 installation disk, but no Win 10 installation media.)

Yes, and I found how to interact with Microsoft - in my own language, making things easier because the commands are not always that easy to translate.

So far I'm still stuck after their first advice, but let's see if they can come up with something. I'll report back then.

 

It did tanke some time, but this time Microsoft did help.
