WIN 10 upgrade and possible virus

I don't know if this is the right place, but my problem is this:

Two PC of my PCs have WIN 8.1 and 7.

I will keep the 8.1, as it is a multimedia PC. But the one with WIN 7 I would like upgrading to WIN 10.

One of the reasons is, I have "something" bringing fake offers of "Win a Ipad" etc. when I click on certain links.

At the same time, the dis(s) are to small, so I will buy a bigger one. The best thing seems to be, installing WIN 10 from scratch, but I may need to install WIN 7 first?

Then there seems to be some ways to transfer data, programs and settings from 7 to 8. Is there something like that for upgrading to 10?

And, if so, will that infect the new installation?

Or is the sensible thing to clean the WIN7 installation first? It seems to be necessary to do the full job, as no virus programs I have used seems to be able to get rid if the problem.

Which browser are you using and do you have pop-ups blocked?

Do you mean your hard drive is too small?

You already have Win 7 installed. Win 10 will be available 7/29/15 via Windows Update. The update should retain your programs and settings. DO NOT "clean" the Win7 installation first.

    1. I am using Firefox and Google Chrome. Don't think I have pop-ups bloced at this computer/browsers.

    2. Yes, my hard drive is too small. The C: drive is 621 MB free of 116 GB, and an E: drive with 15.5GB of 123 GB free. I think I could free some 5 GB on the C: drive, possibly 6, without removing programs.

    3. OK, so I just upgrade, and take it from there, leaving the migration to a larger disk for later?

    Thank you for the advice!

Your C drive is effectively full and the upgrade to 10 will fail unless you migrate to a larger disk first.

2.) You'd need to get a larger "C" drive — possibly 160 GB and clone your current "C" drive to it as posted by another you need 18 GB just for the OS plus 25% free space for things to work properly.

3.) As stated earlier, your programs and settings should be retained and you won't need to migrate anything.

It is strongly advised that you create a back-up image of your hard drive before you do the Win 10 update in case of problems with or you dislike Win 10 for some reason so that you can restore your drive to it's then current condition in Win 7.

Popups are blocked in Firefix and Chrome. (Possibly also IE, but I onloy use that when Microsoft reqires it. I'll have to do the malware drill then? (Oh, well ...)

Possibly do that before I clone to the new disk? That way I will have a backup anyway.

    Thank you for your advice!
