I decided to give Win 11 a go. I have an older Dell with 32GB of RAM, and dual 4 core processors @2.33 GHz (8 cores), so not shabby when you can get Win 11 on a 1.1GHz laptop with 4GB of RAM, or so I thought. I downloaded the latest Win 11 release then used Rufus to create an installer to bypass TPM, etc. And this thing is a DOG! Clicking on anything takes forever to open. Win 10 was great on this hardware.
BTW the digital activation from 10 will activate Win 11.
Think of going back a release, I have installed a previous release on other hardware, and it seemed to run ok.

    Anyone else having this experience?

Oh yeah..... I spent an all-nighter trying to configure win11 with no positive results .... except one, I found Major Geeks dot com
At every click they prompt you to pay to do something.
I finally got filesharing turned on and within 5 minutes Win 11 prompted me to buy more cloud space.
Say what?... I never logged into the cloud drive.... oh win 11 did it for me automatically, I see.
It uploaded 16 gigs worth of data to the cloud without me knowing it or asking my permission.
Thats when I started deleting default apps.
Win 11 re-installed them and locked me out of networking again.

I was ready to throw the Windows 7 install disc into a brand new computer.

Instead I went to windows update and *ahem*updated to Win 10 pro

And Foogoo; just so you know... do a fresh install... save no settings no files no apps. Even if it means making a new partition to do so.
I tried all 3 and the clean install was the only one that worked without carrying over win 11 garbage.

    sincerely

    Bill

    I only do fresh installs.
Day two, seems to run a little bit better, but then I noticed the text on the screen is blurry / blocky. GoogleFu and I find a YT video to make some reg changes and reboot, that is fixed. Before finding that video I found other instructions, but trying to follow those were not good, apparently they change the options in Win 11 faster than Elon can lose 11 billion. Win 11 help pages should have a note that this is current as of XXXX release. I know everyone like to hate on the latest Windows, but I swear Win 10 was not like this.

hang on there is a very buried setting that I only used once and it cleaned everything up nice
let me see if I can find it

in settings-personalization-fonts way to the right at the top of the list you will find "Adjust ClearType Text"
Works quite well, you should be happy with the results.

If you can't find it or it doesn't display its another victim of will 11 multi-click submenu syndrome... run a search for it since it's been part of the OS since win95; it'll still be in there.

What about drivers for that hardware? Are there CPUs W11 will not support? Instruction set, et cetera?

Im familiar with the numbers from Intel but not Athlon, so you get to do the legwork yourself.
Just go to microsoft and type in windows 11 compatability and type in your specs.

    With intel i have a 3770, a 4770 and a 4590... and windows 11 wont go with anything less than 5000

You can can do a profile of your entire hardware setup and the bot will tell you if its good with 11

Yes I did notice this on a non conforming i7 Intel 5th gen CPU was super quick with Win10 but aweful on Win11.
I did need a new PC so have a i7 12700F now with Win11 and is again super quick, though I'm not a fan of the Win11 start menu.

It has been running a little better. I was trying to run it "out of the box", but I can't, so I have installed a few modifications like Shell & Explorer Patcher.
It is just hard when you use mods and have to support the vanilla OS at work.
I really disagree with making good hardware obsolete. I thought the deal was MS would not update unsupported hardware, but as of now the OS is getting updates.
