    Hi~

I'm trying to fix a friends' W2K system that just kept rebooting. I got it to run in Safe Mode, but that's about as far as it goes.

I scanned for viruses (as a slave to my HD) and disk errors; viruses deleted, no HD problems. The error log in Administrative Tools suggests it's a problem now with DCOM / network adapter; also I can't install anything in safe mode; is this by design or a problem with MSinstaller?

    So, the questions are:

    1) Can I do a 'refresh' install over a W2K installation w/ SP 4, like I could with Win 98?

    2) Is there a 'critical system file checker' or somesuch in W2K like there is in XP?

    Any feedback/ suggestions GREATLY APPRECIATED!

    Jim

I don't have details, but I think there is virus or trojan that affects the DCOM+ something or other. He may still have a virus or trojan installed. What utilities did you use to clean it up?
