    Hi There Everyone,
This system was built for me last year as a gift from a computer distributor store (a coffee was spilled in my old computer). It was put together in December 2006.

It is a far better version than the original version (I can see). I have the numbers from the "Authentication" for this one. I haven't had problems the whole year working with "Avast" and "Ad-Aware SE" ... but I am sure I was recieving too many emails with attachments and I had cought a bug or something showing problems in October this year. The machine sharted to not be abil to finnish opening pages and or take forever to open them. I had installed a Anti-Virus called "Defender Pro" and I am sure I had to have made bad choices when I was asked whether to "Allow or Deny." I unistalled the whole Defender Pro but realized that I couldn't "view" the "Add and Remove Programs" and now mapquest won't show the "map" itself and several pages such as this one I am typing in won't allow me to do many things such as adding an emoticon or change the font.

This windows Version has no "System Restore" at all and that is what I need to do. I have bought a better Anti-Virus now called "System Suite 8"
but can't install it till I fix the kinks in my windows 2000... can someone lend me a helping hand ??

This is the Error Notices for trying to open the "Add and Remove Programs"

    Internet Explorer Script Error
    Line:21
    Char:1
Error: Object doesn't support this property or method
    Code: 0
    URL: res://sp3res.dll/default.hta

I clicked around in the window to try to get something to react but these were my further line messages.
    Line: 44
    Line:57

I am 50 and have been useing computers for about 10 years but I am in trouble here... I need Tch advice or direction...

Insert your Win2000 CD in your CD drive. Go to a command prompt (click Start > Run and type cmd and press Enter. In Win2000, you may need to type command and then press Enter). At the prompt in the black window that opens, type sfc /scannow and press Enter. Note the space before the "/". This can take some time, so be patient. If you get a window that pops open saying "Insert your Windows CD..." just click retry. If it comes up alot, and you have 2 CD (or DVD) drives, try the CD in the other drive. When the process has finished, type exit and press Enter. Let us know if this helps.... Also, check to see which Service Pack you're running. The latest is SP4 for Windows 2000. Right click My Computer and click Properties to find out what Service Pack you have installed.

Hey There and Thank You So Much for the expertise but I was given a Pre-Installed Windows 2000 without a CD to keep. I have all the numbers for the Authentication to be done if needed but should I try anyway ?? I just love the letter strait into my mailbox because I can't see all parts of the Forum pages and it's pretty tough to function here.

I did some research and it looks like some system files may need to be re-registered. This is the 'easy' fix and hopefully this is all you'll need, but things are rarely this easy. I read that Add/Remove Programs is html based and that's why you'd be getting Internet Explorer errors..... anyway, try running Dial.A.Fix (link: www.majorgeeks.com/download4899.html) and select everything in the registration center and click Go.

BTW- it's generally not a good idea to list your email address in a forum, especially as a link. In your case, you could have typed something like "send to my MajorGeeks user name at EarthLink dot Net". There are 'spam-bots' (or are they called 'spiders'?) that scan forums looking for email addresses to flood with junk mail and who-knows-what...
Do you have a friend or neighbor or relative that might have the CD you can borrow (or even copy for archival purposes)?

I appreciate the rapid response. I did wonder about the address so thanks again for that too... I am downloading it surprisingly without hitches ... and "no" I don't know another human being with Windows 2000 (ok laugh) I had an "old" computer that had a drink spilled onto it while in the care of the distributor so rather than try to work with it anyway and replace a few parts they offered a new (refurbished) one and said "Merry Christmas" so you can tell the rest. This sys is already after I brought it back asking them to take the disfunctional Win XP and put back whatever was there first..... but it lasted well so it must have had all the updates right with it... ok download is done... here goes Thanks !!

Yeah. Use TUGZip. I use it and I freekin love it! It will unzip just about format of compressed file you can throw at it. And it's free.
    TUGZip: http://www.majorgeeks.com/TUGZip_d4670.html
Install it with default settings. On one of the final screens you'll see where you can 'Select All' below a list of different zip formats, each with their own little check box. Be sure to click the Select All, then click Finish. The window that opens after that you can just close right away. To unzip, just right click on the zip file and select the choice that says "Extract to: filename" and it will extract to a folder on your desktop or where-ever the zipped file was located (if the zipped file is in My Documents, the unzipped folder will also be in My Documents...).
